    Network Sharing Question

So I have my laptop connected directly to my Xfinity Router. Wife has a Desktop in our spare bedroom that we're using as an office that's connected to our home Wifi. In essence would I be able to connect to her machine by going into start\run\PCNAME\C$? I tried it a few times and it was telling me it couldn't find the name and to make sure it was correct. I have verified and turned on Network and Sharing but I feel as though I am missing another step.

    Thanks

I assume you have already selected to share the C: drive.

If you click on Network do you see both computers? I have a shortcut to Network on my desktop.

If I double-click on that I can see two computers

If I double-click on the computer Starship I can see it's shares including the share for C drive.

An alternative way is to make a shortcut to the network computer. I only make shortcuts to the computer itself instead of its shares. That simplifies things.

I have a folder on my desktop called My Network. I place the shortcuts to my network computers in it.

For example, to create a shortcut to the network computer called Starship:
Right click on area you want the shortcut to be
    Select New -> Shortcut
    For location type \\Starship
    Click Next
You can use the default name Starship if want
    Click Finish

If you want to make a shortcut the C: drive on the computer Starship the location would be:
    \\Starship\C

You can also directly access a share by entering its location in File Explorer.
    For example, \\Starship\C

Thanks. When I have a moment I have to double check. The PC I am trying to access is my wife's and I am just tired of copying stuff from my PC to a thumb drive bringing it into the room and basically rinse repeat every time she asks for help
