Try as I may, I cannot see a certain computer from another

I have a PC running Windows running Windows 10 ver. 22H2 and a laptop running the same, except for a minor variation in the build, on my home network. Both have an OS partition and a Data partition. I want to access the Data partition of the other from each machine, but cannot. I am able to see and map to the laptop from the PC, but unable to see or map to the PC. I can see the laptop from the PC and copy and move files to it and even back to the PC, but all from the PC. Of course, I can ping each computer from the other. I have turned on File and printer sharing on both and made the relevant folders shared on both machines.I have also set the Function Discovery Provider Host, Function Discovery Resource Publication and UPnP Device Host to Automatic. I am able to use my comparison software to copy files back and forth. I also am able to use Microsoft Garage mouse software to control; both machines with one keyboard and mouse. I have turned off all firewalls on both machines. I have even turned off IP6 for the adapter on both machines. Oddly, I can access the PC's Public folder from the laptop but not the drive and folders I need. I am using the same network over wired Ethernet.

    Any ideas? Totally puzzled! TIA.

"Try as I may, I cannot see a certain computer from another "

How are you trying to look?
Using the file explorer, Network section?
    That's been unreliable for years.

Test your comms by entering the computer name of each computer in the other's File explorer address bar using this syntax
    \\COMPUTERNAME
and, judging by your comments, I expect you to be able to see each other's shared folders.
    - So, in the PC, you enter \\COMPUTERNAMEofLAPTOP
    - and, in the laptop, you enter \\COMPUTERNAMofEPC
You can check the correct computer name of each computer by entering
this in a cmd prompt window
    Code:
    echo %ComputerName%
or this in a PS window
    Code:
    $env:computername

To avoid doing this each time, you can create shortcuts to each.

I am seeing this under Networks. Yes, the first thing I did before posting was to try mapping using the. \\COMPUTERNAME\folder convention . That had worked on the PC as I could see the laptop. But not the other way around.

Understood. Then there is a network problem not just a File explorer annoyance.

I use this to check my own network setup

To access a drive you need to use the built in admin share every drive has one hidden with a $ is d$ you must pass and admin name password on the pc your connecting to using IP instead of name often solves problems.

\\192.168.1.21\d$ you may need to set NTFS permission to gain access to files

Gee, I forgot all about the $ sign the last time I tried it! Thanks. Anyway, I tried that and now it asks me for network credentials, which I can't supply, on both machines though I do not use passwords for either the PC or laptop!

You can give a admin username on the pc your connecting to and leave password blank. Do you have no passwords or just loggin auto with one?

I have resolved this issue. I just had to fiddle with the Security settings. It's all good now. Thanks to all.
