I just wanna ask: Is it normal that clicking on 'Network' in Windows Explorer won't let me connect to the given computer or access its folders/files? Am I the only one?
Yes, it's been a common problem since about Version 1803.
Sometimes it will show your network computers & shares. Sometimes it won't.

I always use shortcuts these days and hardly ever even bother looking in File explorer's Network section.

And just to emphasise the point:-

You were connected, File explorer was just refusing to show that.

THANK YOU GUYS, I managed to do it via the shortcut route.

This has been an ongoing annoyance for years now. I have the problem in both Windows 10 and 11.

Someone on this forum came up with this batch file. Right-click on it and Run as Administrator. Do this on all computers. Doing this many times helps at least until the next time. You can automate this but doing that has not always helped for me.

    FDResPub.bat
    Code:
    net stop FDResPub
    net start FDResPub

Before running the batch file you see neither of my computers show up in Network:

After running the batch file on both my computers you see both my desktop DarkMatter (Win 10) and laptop Starship (Win 11) show up in Network:

No. You are in a very very very long line, I'm sorry to say.

    MisterEd,

Your mention of the service stop/start commands prove there's a problem in the networking stack. It can also be executed as
    sc stop FDResPub
    sc start FDResPub

I discovered those commands in another write up about "missing resource names in the Network Folder. And it also be an issue with both the service and File Manager. One day, Microsoft might provide the solution, I hope.
