    Cannot access NAS

I cannot access the NAS on the network but I can access it through its web interface.

    Windows 10 Pro x64 21H2 19044.2130
    NAS is Synology DS218j

    Here's what I tried:

-- Using Add Network Location Wizard > Choose custom network location > entered \\NAS\Data in the Internet or network address field. After clicking Next, the dialog reads:
"The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another.

-- Using Map Network Drive > in the Drive dropdown I chose L > for Folder I entered \\NAS\Data, Reconnect at sign-in is checked. After clicking Finish the dialog reads:
"Network Error Windows cannot access \\NAS\Data Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose. Error code: 0x80070043
The network name cannot be found."

Suggestions for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

Is it an older NAS with SMB1?

Windows 10 has that disabled by default.

You can enable it in Control Panel/Programs and Features/ then on the LHS, Turn Windows Features on and off.

When I go into the NAS SMB settings, the choices for minimum SMB protocol are SMB1, SMB2. The max choices are SMB1, SMB2, SMB2 and Large MTU, SMB3. Does that answer your question?

When I go to Control Panel/Programs and Features, this is what I see:

When using Add a network location, I get the message "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another."

Is your NAS named something other than NAS?

I tried clearing SMB 1.0/CIFS Automatic Removal as you have it and I still cannot map or add a network location.

I don't think so. How can I check that?

Open Synology Assistant and let it search for your NAS - It will give you the name, IP address, MAC address and serial number

I installed Synology Assistant and "No Synology server was found on the local network." I turned off the firewalls, I disabled the virus protection, I installed Synology Assistant on my Windows 11 machine and got the same results.

I'm going to be installing a new router to replace my Spectrum supplied router. Should I just go ahead and do that to see if that fixes my issue?

Yes because this is going to change the dynamic. There is no point in troubleshooting using router A when you really want to be using router B.

Can you see the NAS in your router map?

Also the documentation says you can use http://diskstation:5000/ in your browser this will be a direct connection not using the application. Have you tried this? What is the Lan light saying is it green? if it is off or no color then it is having connection issues. Sorry got to ask all these sorts of things.
