SMBv2 Possible on LINKSYS WRT1900ACS Router?

I have a Linksys WRT1900ACS Router and apparently it only supports SMBv1 protocol, which according to Microsoft is a large security concern. I have been using it as a NAS with a hard drive plugged into it's USB port by manually enabling SMBv1 on Windows 10. It occurred to me that perhaps I could install a custom firmware (such as DD-WRT) onto the router and then it might be able to support the more secure SMBv2 protocol. Is this possible, or is the SMBv1 support due to a hardware constraint?

    SMB is completely software.

I'm not 100% sure but I think your router supports the newest version of Openwrt which supports SMB

No, SMBv2 and beyond are not supported on routers unless they have enough RAM and a good CPU to handle it.

Is this right? Official AsusWRT Samba uses SMBv1 only? | SmallNetBuilder Forums

    Hi.

SMB/Samba is a real bloated mess.

If possible, don't rely on a router to do disk sharing. Get a dedicated NAS instead, like a Synology.

    FWIW.

I used an old AMD FX motherboard and processor to build my own NAS and it runs TrueNAS Core (free) fabulously.
