I suspected as much. I've been using this router now for several years without issue but the time has come, the walrus said.

I'm actually in the middle of a major house move right now. As this laptop is the only one having issues (only one of two updated to Windows 10 to date) and the many other devices have no issues, I'm going to defer the purchase of a new router until after we move as we'll be shifting to Naked ADSL in the new abode and then might be a good time to update for everybody. Usage on a weekend could be up to 4 laptops, a desk PC, sundry phones and a couple of tablets to boot - so it's not just me to consider. Everyone else is happy and hunkydory and I don't need to upset their applecarts right now.

I just don't need more angst. I thank the community for your assistance and I will mark this as solved. If I have further issues, I'll be back after we move in a month's time. :)

Well hopefully there may be still some type of temporary solution. One thought would be contacting the ISP support to see if they have any type of work around for you until you get into the new location. I ran into a similar problem here on a second desktop I connect remotely by usb WiFi wireless with 7 but not by the straight ethernet to the modem while 10 connects by eithernet but can't used the usb WiFi adapter due to nothing newer then 7 drivers! I put that together back in 2010 as an extra case used now mostly for trying things out on. Two totally different versions requiting two totally different forms of connecting! Catch 22 for sure!

I have a metre long cable that I can run from the laptop to the router for the time being. That's fine for now and allows me to play around with the Ten setup.

My ISP didn't supply this router. I bought it off the shelf when my last one died.

And i still have the eMachine to watch my Netflix on. It's all good for now.

Well it's good to hear you won't be stranded for the time being! I just hope the next router you get into will also last a good number of years and hopefully won't be found lacking support a few newer versions of Windows up the road any?!
