    Question about WiFi and SONOS

    Hello All,

I have a SONOS Play 5 generation 1. My Network Configuration is as follows:

    • ATT Uverse for Internet. ATT Gateway is located in My Office and is using WiFi Channel 1 for 2.4Ghz and Channel 153 for 5Ghz
    • I have a Netgear Nighthawk Router in my Living Room which is set up in Access Point mode so it is wired to the ATT Gateway. The Netgear uses the same channels for 2.4 and 5Ghz as the ATT Gateway which is 1 and 153, respectively.
    • Sonos uses Channel 11

Now for the issue. I use Spotify to listen to music and podcasts with my Play 5. I can play music without any issues. When I play a Podcast (someone speaking), the Podcast plays for about 10 minutes and then the Play 5 goes silent. When I look at Spotify, it thinks the Podcast is still playing. I can hit pause and then play and the Podcast will play again.

I have contacted SONOS and they cannot figure it out. I have reset my Play5 to factory and added it back to SONOS.

    Thanks, Bill

    Hello

Wow your setup. Everything is going on.

Make sure youre not getting confused between Bluetooth pairing (2.4ghz) and Wireless (2.4ghz)

Youtube on mobile can sometimes be very annoying. If you dont touch your phone for longer than so many minutes whilst playing a stream, after a while, it'll stop playing and ask you 'are you still listening to this'? and pause the stream, which wont start back up again until you select the 'yes i am' option. Of course im listening to this.

Why they have done this i do not know. Some say its to save bandwidth. Whos bandwidth? That doesnt make sense either.

Another few things i thought of.

If youre only going to use 1 channel for Sonos, make sure that you only allow 1 frequency at a time and choose 20mhz.
1 channel would be 20mhz, whilst 2 channels would be 20mhz and 40mhz combined.

Also, If Spotify buffers ahead of time, by more than 4 to 5 minutes say, any power management settings for devices might think the stream has stopped and power down the device. Thats the sort of thing Windows would do.
If im streaming music on Youtube, i can disconnect the internet and youtube will keep playing for at least 3 to 4 minutes.

    @Pluginz

Thanks for your reply. I will look into your suggestions. The thing that is odd is the podcasts used to work in the past. I have not made any changes so I am at a loss as to what is happening. The fact the podcast stop after a few minutes does make me think it is some type of time . When the music stops from the Play5, I check the tablet (which is playing Spotify) and the tablet thinks the podcast is still playing.
