This one shows my exact location:

That one doesn't even look at your IP address, it's querying your browser....

    How Does My Location Work?
My Location uses the Geolocation technology that is built-in with your browser which has access to your current location.....
...and if, like me, you lock down your browser it cannot tell your location. This is all it sees for me:

However this one just shows the cloudflare server location which is miles away.
    What is my ip address
That one says I'm in London (not true). My one MY IP LOCATION => Where am I based on my IP? puts me 30 miles to the west of London. That's closer, but still 15 miles south of my true location.

True if I block location it shows me in USA instead of the exact road that I live in in London.

It's weird how if location permission is given it shows almost show the exact location of my house. That's kind of weird as I'm using a mobile broadband 4G router and not a landline so it's portable.

Anyway I tend to block or randomise all that tracking stuff. See this post where I've got 3 tabs open in the same browser.

    Anonymizing my ip address

I think that the point is if you need website's to know your location to give accurate location based search results then you'd have to figure out how not to block tracking and locating methods that they might use and I'm not expert on those.

Anyway just for a laugh here's MS Edge with location allowed. (It's the same website that showed my exact location before without any blocking methods being used).

    It says I'm in USA.

Anyway it's not surprising with proxy ip header spoofing enabled.

just having a lightbulb moment, if your mobile network is on 4g couldnt it be pinging from more than 1 tower to actually triangulate and pinpoint...?

Maybe but I read somewhere that they get the signal strength of other nearby routers and make a best guess based on that.

Anyway based on ip address they just get cloudflare's server location.

    That's strange?!-my-location.png

But with geolocation temporarily enabled it's almost exact.

Run a TRACERT and you can see the entire convoluted path your internet connection takes you!

Open a Command Prompt and type: - tracert www.tenforums.com - and hit ENTER.

You can substitute any web address or IP address for a Tracert.

Your local IP will be #1 on the list.
