OK - I've really got to do this! Nervous!

I went into my laptop's system properties and created a manual restore point, and labelled it. Is this sufficient to protect everything?
I only have one drive - C: and I use MS's One Drive all the time, hardly ever using 'My PC'

A System Restore point monitors and restores a limited and specific set of file types, excluding user data.
Thus it can reverse registry, driver, O/S file changes, Windows Updates, program installations..

Before restoring one you can scan to see what programs may be affected.

The restoration process is not 100% reliable- sometimes SR simply fails to restore, then after some update or upgrade may start again. The few I've done in the last year have worked.

SR is not new- been in Windows for decades.

It provides no protection against disk failure or corruption, and as said, none for user data.

OK, so are you saying that I would have to manually restore everything I have created: One Drive and everything in it, all the apps I have installed, FB, LinkedIn, Spotify, Media Players, Kindle, Twitter and so on. But any alterations to the settings I have made will be re-installed as at the time of the SR?

No. The objective of an SR point is to restore the O/S and programs to the state it was when the SR point was created.

OK. I have been through all the steps in the link you sent me, to no avail. Still have the same problem. Thanks for all you help. I'll have to leave it for now.
