How can my SanDisk Ultra's Win10 network name be changed?

HseHestedt, the drive mapping sounded great. It gets me right to the desired folder on the SanDisk drive.
But now even more characters (the folder name) are being used up in the path, which is now:
    This PC > foldername \\ARRIS-LGW\USBStorage\SanDisk-010189d5392d5e057c3280e72a64c55eb29413578f8ef6bd8b3a2c07bc8cafc( (Z:)

There are two types of path to a network share, and the files/folders it contains.
The UNC Path is the form \\server\sharename\folder\filename
A Mapped drive path to access the same file would be Z:\folder\filename

'This PC' is just showing you the UNC path that Z: is mapped to, it's for your information only. All OS file operations will use the Mapped Drive path Z:\ so there should be no problems with the path length being too long.

It's time to replace my gateway router with a newer one that supports WPA3 or WPA2 (AES), so maybe I'll find one that comes with a more friendly USB feature while also 'approved' for compatibility with Xfinity.
    Probably a wise decision.

When looking at the specs of potential replacements look for one that supports using the SMB 2.0 protocol or higher for making network connections. All too many routers to this day (mine included) still only support using the obsolete and deprecated SMB 1.0 protocol.

Unfortunately, usb sharing still tends to be the least well documented part of any router's specs. Finding this info can be difficult.

    Thanks for clarifying that, Bree!

    Destination Folder Access Denied?

Well, it turned out that my gateway router was not in need of replacement - it just needed to be correctly configured for WPA2-PSK (AES). Bree answered the question about path length, so I thought I'd try pursuing its USB shared network drive feature. But although I inserted a Sandisk Ultra thumb drive in the USB port of my Arris gateway modem/router, and My Computer shows that the thumb drive does appear as a network shared folder, when I try to move a Word.doc (or anything else) to that folder, I get this dialog:

“Destination Folder Access Denied – You’ll need to provide administrator permission to move to this folder.”

If I click on “Continue”, and enter my Win10 administrator account password, the “Destination Folder Access Denied” dialog reappears, and nothing can be copied.

If I "get properties" on the network shared folder, there are just two tabs: General, and Previous Versions. There’s no Security tab, so I can’t edit its permissions.

    What am I missing?

What you are missing is that you cannot set security on the share from the client side of the connection. You need to set access permissions from the server side. Access control is set up on router itself. This should help.....
