Oh please... Network help XP - windows 10

For years I have sought a solution. My CNC machine uses a windows XP pro machine. I design files in the CAD software on a Windows 10 machine. Something Broke! I used to be able to see the shared folder and drop files to mill, but I can no longer see the windows XP machine.

    Please help?

I had a similar issue a while ago. In one of the recent updates Microsoft disabled SMB 1.0 protocol which is what XP uses for sharing. You need to go back into Windows 10 "Programs and Features" and reenable SMB 1.0 Server and/or Client protocol modes, depending on which way you do the sharing.

I enabled just server mode on Win 10 as I share a folder on my Win 10 machine and mount it on my XP machine.

    Oh Thank you!

    I am so hopeful!

I have already enabled the SMB 1.0 Client / Server (currently I have only client enabled as I just want to make the files on Win10 and share them to the XP machine.)

    I think 192.168.1.108 Win10(powerhogg) and 192.168.1.102 WinXP(cnc)

Or which of these do you need to know?

I have noticed that the explorer window that opens from my software's "OPEN FILE" command shows the CNC computer on the network. I can access it and move files about. However, the main windows file explorer does not show the CNC computer? Does that make sense?

Are your XP machine and Win10 machines in the same WORKGROUP?

On your Win10 machine, if you go to the explorer window for your computer, and then on the Computer
item, select the Map Network Drive menu, select Browse, do you see your XP machine in the network?

    Solved, but for unknow reasons.

I will try to describe the symptom for future solutions or maybe it will happen again.

So, I couldn't get windows 10 file explorer to list my XP machine on the far left side under network. So I forgot about trying to solve it and went about my day's work. I opened up the CAD software and went to open a previous with the typical FILE - OPEN procedure that we all do. The "File Explorer" window that the CAD software opened HAD the ability to see the XP machine! And, I was able to successfully open a file from the XP machine.

Once I did that I thought maybe a can just put the address into windows 10 file explorer and it would work... So, I put in \\CNC etc. And it worked. AND it then filled CNC(XP machine) into the file explorer!

I thought everything was solved until a few minutes later it went away again. I tried putting other computers names in that I have on my network, but were not visible and it worked for them too! Like \\AUDIO(just another of my win10 computers)

But they would come and go.

This morning they are all there and don't seem to be going away!?

    What does this all mean?
