    Elite 8300 NIC Win 10

    Hello everyone!

I have an HP Elite 8300 full tower running win10.

My wife, a couple of weeks ago, mentioned that she could not get on the internet. I checked Device Manager and her NIC now has a yellow sign placed on it. This happened suddenly so I am not sure where it came from. I checked and there were no Windows updates and we have not installed any new hardware or software. This just hit us out of the blue.

Her system has an Intel 82579LM NIC and I have been searching for a driver for a couple of days and have not been able to find one for Win10.

So two questions... First, is there any software that can text the physical port without a driver being installed on it?

Second, does anyone have, or know where I can find, a compatible driver?

    Thanks for reading!

Its motherboard has a PCI Express x1 slot for adding an ethernet card(NIC), or you can plug in an external USB3 ethernet adapter.

Which ever one you decide to use, make sure it supports gigabit speeds and supports Windows 10.

I believe Windows 8.1 is the last Windows operating system that supports the Intel 82579LM gigabit ethernet device, but I can't confirm that.

Is there an appropriate System Restore point?

    there were no Windows updates
    - Have you checked Driver Updates at the bottom of the list in Update History?

You can try using the last driver available for Win 8.1

What happens if she boots to Safe Mode with Networking?

    or

You might try booting the PC from a suitable live boot disk- although finding one with Win 8 on it might be tricky.
Or you could try a Linux one.

Where a driver cannot be found (and not otherwise) you might try a driver updater program such as Snappy Driver Installer.
Take due precautions.. be prepared to reverse any changes made.
