Shared computer not showing up in Network Explorer
I have two practically identical PCs on an internal ethernet network running through a Netgear switch which is connected by ethernet to a Netgear wifi repeater, which pipes in the internet fine to both machines.
I've assigned fixed IP addresses to both machines. When I open up the "Network" tab on both machines, I can see X boxes and smart TVs that are also connected to the wifi network.
But neither machine sees the other in the network browser, however if I HAND TYPE the name of the other machine in the network browser, it will appear in the network browser, and will remain displayed there, as it should.
However rebooting the machine returns it to not showing the other machine in the browser.
If I use the "map network drive" function in Explorer to map any of the drives on either machine, after first hand typing in the name as I described earlier, those mapped network drives work fine on both machines, without needing to hand type the name of the other machine into the network browser.
I've gone through the services on both machines, and matched what is turned on. SMB is installed and turned on also on both machines, as I have a Mac I need to access and visa versa on the same network.
This setup used to work fine, and I could automatically see the other machine in the Network browser section of Explorer, but I suspect around the time I added the occasional Mac to the mix, both machines started to stop consistently automatically showing the other machine in the Explorer Network browser, although sometimes it seems to work.
(The Mac though seems to always see both shared PCs fine when I use the network browse functionality on MacOS.)
I'm running Windows 10 21H1 on both machines. Since each machine has many drives connected to them that in my work I have to randomly access at various times from the other machine, I am constantly opening Explorer windows to find particular files on particular drives connected to either "other" machine, so it is very inconvenient not having the machines appear automatically in Explorer, given that my development work sometimes requires frequent reboots.
Both machines just show themselves in the Explorer Network browser on a reboot.
How can I fix this?
