    Ethernet adapter suddenly missing

I've spent the last 2 days trying to figure out how to solve this. For some reason the ethernet adapter vanished and I cannot get it working again.

    Background:

About a week ago I replaced my motherboard, CPU, and RAM because my old system was getting very dated. I used my old SSD's with my old windows install as I was under the impression I could plug & play and keep all my data. Well, a few hiccups later I managed to get them to boot with CSM support. Everything seemed fine until I tried to put the system to sleep. The system wouldn't post when waking up from sleep. I thought maybe it had to do with XMP, so I disabled that and tried again but still, the DRAM status light was active when I tried to wake the PC from sleep. Upon my last test of this, it was stuck at this stage and I had to hard reset it.

When I started it back up, it posted normally but when I got into Windows, my wired network adapter was nowhere to be found. It was working completely fine before this.

Things I've tried to fix it:

Literally everything I can find on the internet. To name a few...

-Run every relevant troubleshooter in Windows
    -Show hidden devices
    -Network reset in Windows
-Reset winsock settings, and cleanup network devices with netcfg -d
-Verified onboard LAN controller is enabled in BIOS. Also tried disabling and re-enabling.
    -Cleared CMOS.
    -Clean installed Windows 10.
    -Updated BIOS.
    -Clean installed Windows 10, again.

Uninstalling or rolling back the driver isn't possible because it doesn't show up in Device Manager, or if it does, it has an unexpected name. I've tried to install the proper drivers from Gigabyte multiple times but nothing seems to happen. Wifi is working without any issues. With an ethernet cord plugged in, the port LEDs indicate a 1 Gbps data rate (orange) and the activity LED blinks intermittently.

I'm on Windows 10 Home 21H2 Build 19044.1645, my motherboard is a Gigabyte B560M AORUS PRO AX and the rest of my build is here: System Builder - Intel Core i5-11600K, GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, Corsair 350D MicroATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. First job is check in the bios to confirm the adapter is turned on if it is turn off boot up then go back and enable it this sometimes brings it to live. If you show hidden in device manager is it there?

Thanks. I had tried that, yes, but I just tried again with no luck.

Here's my device manager after showing hidden devices:

Something odd I noticed is the hardware and connection properties screen. It lists 2 "Local Area Connection" entries with the description "Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter" and a status of "not operational"

Bluetooth Personal Area Networks - Source - Streetdirectory.com
A Bluetooth enabled wireless personal network, also known as a piconet, can wirelessly connect a minimum of two and a maximum of eight devices. In a piconet, one device acts as the master device to connect with up to seven active devices. Data is communicated from the master device to another (slave) device
    .

Are using Bluetooth as your primary connection? Thats only for local Piconet. Make sure you installed the WIFI LAN card on your new mother board correctly. Or if it came with one make sure it is properly installed as well.

    Hi,

Is your card a Intel I225-V Rev_03' 2.5 gbps Ethernet Adapter ? there are ongoing issues in the Gigabyte and Z490 line is affected..

But I wonder If you are not in the bath too...

Intel 2.5G LAN issue impacted models : intel

No, I'm not using Bluetooth. I'm trying to get the ethernet adapter to work. WiFi works fine.

Neither of those issues are the same as mine. I am missing the network adapter, therefore there is no connection at all.

Have you read threads a little, you'll find that some report, the same or very close symptoms you have.

But is it the card I specified ? an Intel I225-V Rev_03' 2.5 gbps Ethernet Adapter ?

And the fact that Windows sometimes detect an odd device instead makes me think it could be defective.

After a clean install If it's unable to be detected properly and configured. I would disable it in bios and install a GBE Pcie adapter.

I meant your network ethernet adapter card! If it was working before, then you had one installed on your motherboard. Maybe it got fried or disconnected somehow. Check it! Should be showing up if it`s connected. Or enabled in bios. Should show up in device manager.

The drivers provided from Gigabyte are I225 yes but I'm not sure how I can tell what revision I have. My motherboard is rev1.

My next move is to get a PCIe adapter,

It's enabled and lights up when I put an ethernet cord into it, but seems to not be showing up in device manager. The motherboard is only a week old and the ethernet was working a few days ago, I can't imagine it's fried unless I physically did something to cause that.

I know it suck's but it's not the first time I have to do that. My mother replaced her MB once and 2 weeks later there's was no more On-board Ethernet working. Instead of returning the MB and wait I pop in a Pci adapter and it never failed since.
