Help With USB Port D-Link DIR-1960

    Windows 10 Pro 64 21H1. D-Link DIR-1960.

    Hello,

Can anyone help me set up this router to enable me to put a USB flash drive on-line?

I have disabled the media thing and ticked the boxes for network shares (SAMBA), but the flash drive does not appear on the network.

    Regards

This manual should be of help.
    DIR-1960 AC1900 Smart Mesh Wi-Fi Router | D-Link
I have a 3-month-old Netgear Nighthawk with the front USB 3 port and only needed Run, then \\readyshare entered to get access to a USB Thumb drive, it did take a couple three minutes to show in File Explorer. The D-Link probably has something similar.

The reason I bought the D-Link was because the Readyshare on my Nighthawk stopped working after a Netgear update wrecked it.

I think there may be more to it than just activating the USB in the D-Link. I only need it to share a few unimportant files with my tablets - propably need to do something in Windows 10 Networking, but can't see what.

My Nighthawk is the first Router I've had with the USB port, always use a NAS drive attached by cable to my Router and any computer can Map it for storing data and access to it.

Don't need or want a NAS. I'll have to make do with Dropbox.

Guess I was too cryptic, just saying I couldn't go any further yet with the USB part.

    Hello again,

I got it to work after fiddling with what little I could find on the Net.

Search>run> //192.168.0.1 (router's address) finds the flash drive plugged in
    to the router.

However, it doesn't appear under Network in Windows so isn't a true Network Share,
although it is visible to my tablets and smart TV as a Net Share.
It can be mapped to a drive letter. which is what I've done to cater for Windows.

It needs the router's credentials on setup and on first acces to the devices which
see it. So I'm left wondering if it's secured from the Internet or whether it's
    totally insecure. Any ideas appreciated.

    Thanks to all who responded.

You need to configure USB sharing according to the user manual Page 83:

    https://support.dlink.com/resource/P...NUAL_v1.00.pdf

    https://support.dlink.com/resource/P...90881%3A197990

You should configure both UPnp (DLNA Media Server) and SAMBA for Windows clients. I have a router from a different vendor and this is what I have configured so I can access the router's USB from Android and Windows.

    Make sure DMZ is disabled.

This will prevent incoming connections to your LAN unless you explicitly permit them with port forwarding or enable UPnP.

Thanks ! A few things there to be looked into. Thanks again.
