    Can't reach router/gateway at 192.168.2.1

Just installed Win 10, after catastrophic death of beloved Win 7 machine. Now for some reason, Win 10 will not let me reach my router/gateway at 192.168.2.1, which is the correct IP address for it. My Win 10 machine has a "manual" IP address (as Win 10 calls it, instead of a "fixed Ip address which is what I'm used to calling it, but I digress...) of 198.168.2.101. All this is the same as I had in my Win 7 machine and I had no troubles getting on a browser and accessing my router.

What is Win 10 doing to prevent me from reaching my router ? My "internet connection" is a "private" (as opposed to Public). I have disabled the firewall with no effect; and rebooted, with no effect; still cannot reach router. Have to say, so far I wish I still was on Win 7, settings were straight forward to find.

Any ideas on what I need to do to allow my browser to talk to my router will be GREATLY appreciated !!

njaimo hello and welcome to tenforums

How to set a static IP address on Windows 10 • Pureinfotech did you do all the required steps for static IP?

    If still not working...

For the sake of testing, can you try DHCP on your PC vs static IP?

For a first test, right click Start > Command Prompt(Admin)

    Then ping your Router/Gateway address.
    ping 192.168.2.1

That should get a reply <1ms. stats showing Packets lost 0%. Round trip times = 0ms.
It should show you are reaching your Router.

IP assignment: should be Automatic (DHCP), this saves you from making errors in manual settings.

I wonder if your router is set to ignore ping requires from unauthorized MACs.

So with this W10 PC, can you access the internet, browser working, etc?

my router is a pfSense appliance. I have set the fixed DHCP leases in it including the MAC address of each thing I've got connected to my LAN (iPhone, TV, computers, etc), and the MAC address of the computer has not changed. I do have access to the internet, and is how I am viewing this forum right now. Everything seems to work fine, except me being able to reach anything inside my LAN.

A bit more info -- this is a dual-boot machine, with Linux as the other boot. Everything works fine in Linux. The hard drive (HDD) I had Win 7 installed totally crashed, so I got a new drive and installed Win 10 (this install), and thus my problems started. Not sure I am liking Win 10 so far...
