UK Phone Gurus please is Wifi calling available in UK

    Hi folks
    Quick question for "Phone Gurus".
As Roaming charges between EU/EEA and UK are being introduced in the UK is "Wifi" calling available there and is it "chargeable" or is it free internally in the country.

Most phones have a setting "Wifi calling" hidden away in their settings although I haven't seen much discussions about it (note I'm not thinking about SKYPE/ZOOM etc but "bog standard" phoning).

I know a lot here are also phone gurus --so any ideas -- if bringing a non UK phone into the UK this could in theory save money for "internal" calls without having to go to the bother of getting a temporary pay as you go sim card with a different number.

    Any ideas please :

    Thanks

    Cheers

Assuming you mean you'd be connecting by WiFi to somebody else's home/work network, it's their ISP's policy that will count so you could ask their ISP's customer services for an answer if those linked articles do not resolve matters for you.
    - The answer might be affected by partnering arrangements between your own ISP & UK ones.

AFAIK, on this side of the pond, individual ISPs set their own policy for wifi calling. You'd have to investigate each ISP.

I live in a rural area about 40km South of the Nation's Capital. My Wireless ISP charges no more than for the small amount of added bandwidth.

I installed a steel roof last June and wifi calling saves me from standing at the front window to make/receive calls.

I can now also use my phone in the basement with wifi calling, couldn't do that even with the old roof.

Check this link to see which ISPs offer wifi calling in UK.

Which UK networks offer Wi-Fi Calling?

I like the theory of wifi calling cutting roaming charges as it really should, however, a quick google shows that even when using wifi calling abroad roaming charges are still applied.

    Thanks folks

Seems the best solution then is a temporary "pay as you go Sim card" although that has inconvenience of different number, contacts etc etc.

I thought the Internet thing should make it easier using phones anywhere -- but I suppose Corporate Greed rears its ugly head again.
