    Hi @MaloK:

Something just happened to my XP machine.

I had a problem. Before trying your steps:On XP, I did the following:

    1. right clicked My Computer
    2. Properties
    3. Computer Name tab (it shows Workgroup, so I must have used that instead of mshome)
    4. clicked Network ID (Wizard started)
    5. clicked "computer is for home use and is not part of a business network"
    6. it told me to restart & I did.

It used to startup right to my profile. However, now it doesn't. It stops to let me choose Administrator or Phil (my profile). I want to get that back before I screw everything up.I also saw the following:
Lost ability to access Win10 from WinXP machine-image.png
which is the first time I could see my Win10 machine. However, when I clicked on Finish, I got this message:

Lost ability to access Win10 from WinXP machine-image.png

I'd like to get my XP back to automatically logging onto my profile. Otherwise, I'll have to do a restore from this morning & start over.

this occurred when you did your steps 4-5-6, This is easy to reverse, run,

    Code:
    control userpasswords2
Remove the "users must enter a user name" Checkbox and... Click ok... Fill in required fields click ok.

To resolve your second error, increase the IRPStackSize value in the registry by following these steps.

    1. Run regedit.
    2. Navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
    3. In the right pane, double-click the IRPStackSize value.
NOTE: If the IRPStackSize value does not already exist, use the following procedure to create it:
In the Parameters folder of the registry, right-click the right pane.
Point to New, and then click DWord Value.
    Type IRPStackSize.
    4. Change the Base to decimal.
    5. In the Value Data box, type a value that is larger than the value that is listed.
If you created the IRPStackSize value using the procedure described in step 4, the default value is 15. It is recommended that you increase the value by 3. Therefore, enter 18 and click OK.
    6. Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
If the problem persists after you complete the preceding procedure, try to increase the value of IRPStackSize by 3 once more.

Thank you again for your help. That resolved that issue.

I had tried that before without success. I have increased from 15 by the value of 3, until I'm now up to 24 & still get that error.

By the way, in checking while trying to map the drive, I found that I do have "WORKGOUP" on both my machines, so I was wrong about having mshome on XP.

Also, when I try "Net view" on XP, I get the message:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Phil>net view
The service has not been started.

    I don't see a new view service.

I do see this when trying to map a network drive:

Lost ability to access Win10 from WinXP machine-image.png

    Before, I think I couldn't see any of that, so I think I'm making progress,but: 🤷*♂️

    Yes you do make progress...

Check if service "Computer Browser" is running... This should not been changed but I think running the network wizard make us took a couple steps back.

Yes, it's running. Under Net... services on XP, I see this:
Lost ability to access Win10 from WinXP machine-image.png
Should any of that be changed?

I stopped those services, which are set to automatic. However, when I now try to map network drive, & I click on WORKGROUP, I no longer expand it & I don't see anything. I restarted those services, but I still can't see anything.

Should I stop them, set them to manual, & reboot?

I don't think you have any software using these but you can reconfigure them as they where and restart the computer. in XP you nearly need to restart after every changes.

that is why I use the CMD with the command I listed in the second part post #21.

Open a CMD prompt and redo this part you will obtain an error message. Windows network troubleshooting is much simpler using Net.exe, the command are clear and the responses are direct. leading rapidly to where the problem should be investigated.

At post #29 you showed that your net view where working... The next step would have been to try to view the machine. You where getting closer.

Refrain from adding additional modifications. and follow exactly the steps I'm giving, report back with the error message you have.
