    Onedrive Confusion

    Windows Version 21H1
    Windows Explorer Screenshot.pdf
After ignoring it for years, I am trying to learn about OneDrive. I have it set up (OneDrive for business with MS 365) and it seems to be working as advertised, but 2 things are bothering me.
First, the instance of OneDrive that shows under my user profile in Windows Explorer doesn't have the OneDrive cloud icon, it has the regular default folder icon. Is this intentional, and if so why, and if it isn't how can I fix it?
Second, why does OneDrive even show in my user profile section in Windows Explorer? It just seems redundant to me. The Desktop, Documents & Pictures folders are showing twice in the user section, once standing alone and again under OneDrive. Then everything shows again under OneDrive at the top. What am I missing here?
    Thanks,
    Jim

This is the way that mine looks. I'm on Office 365, but the personal version instead of the OneDrive for Business

Not sure if you're viewing things from your "user profile (C:\Users\admin (name)) or Windows Explorer which should show the OneDrive folders with cloud icons. Here under "Windows Explorer" you will notice both OneDrive - Personal and OneDrive Business (in the case my Saint Leo school account) show cloud icons. In Windows Explorer under user profile, the personal folder is a normal folder, where the business folder shows a cloud icon...

Can't explain why, other than to say it's a "Microsoft" thing. One thing to note though is if only one OneDrive account is shown under Users, it will be a normal folder (no icon) as shown on my main PC with only my personal account.

Another FYI is the "business" account icon color will be shown as blue in the notification area. Where the non-business (personal) account would be a white/grey color.

In keeping things short and simple, those folders will always show under a user account to show which system folders a user has access to. It's been that way forever, so I'm used to it.

Additionally, if Documents, Pictures, Music, etc is showing inside the OneDrive folder, that means those folders are backed up in OneDrive. If you don't want that, they can be removed... Turn On or Off OneDrive PC Folder Backup Protection in Windows 10

    Hope this helps

Thanks, the lights are starting to come on!
I found the "Show all folders" option for the navigation pane, and turned it off, which eliminated a lot of the redundant stuff that was bugging me. The OneDrive icon in the user profile was still the standard folder icon, but I just changed it using the properties page. The change survived a reboot and doesn't seem to have caused any problems so I am happy now!
This is what my Windows Explorer looks like now.
