onedrive only works when full: I would like to have some space

I have a 5gb one drive account, but when I try to remove files to another drive to save space, it will add files from my computer to fill it back up again.

There seems to not be an easy off button for this.

When I tried to stop it the first time it got rid of it in my file manager area, so I could not get rid of all the files.

    20h2 version.

    Thanks.

Keep data in subfolders, and you can then select which folders to sync.

Of course real solution is to buy some cloud space. Onedrive is about £20 per year for 100 GB.

Remember data is valuable, so it is worth investing a modest sum for peace of mind.

To me, best option is leasing office 365, as you get 1TB free as well.

I do not want to sync any currently, I just want to use the drive like my others, such as assigning files by myself.

This is not a solution for me this month. I also did not frame my question on how to get cloud storage.

    See:

Sometimes you may wish to stop syncing OneDrive files to your PC, and start syncing again at another time.
    ...
This tutorial will show you how to link (sign in) or unlink (sign out) OneDrive with a Microsoft account to start or stop syncing files for your account in Windows 10.

I do not want to unlink one drive, I just want it to stop copying files to it , as if I unlink the drive it disappears from being ready accessible.
I do think this item is flawed.
