While using TOR does using a vpn with it add to your anonymity? Make it harder for others to locate you? Does it improve things or conflict with TOT causing problems? I did google this but you all seem to know what your doing. Is it good to use a vpn with TOR?

short answer - Generally, yes you have an additional layer of security.
A VPN is an encrypted tunnel. So if using TOR over VPN the your data is encrypted even after passing through the exit node.
With a VPN you can also select which server you connect to. Generally I would not pick one in the same location that you are situated. You'd want a no logs VPN provider and some providers even allow double VPN (VPN over VPN), and obfuscation.,
But these technologies are dependent on provider and location.
Also, the protocol you use will affect your level of security of encrypted data. You would not use PPTP, SSTP or L2TP as these are either compromised of propriety Microsoft technology.
You also need to be ware of DNS and IP leaks too.
Better security, but more complex in making sure it is actually configured properly.
If you have IPv6 enabled or you are using java scripts, you void any anonymity gained by VPN.
VPN is 3rd party that protects you identity from other 3rd party, so choosing the right VPN is essential.
A good VPN includes an encrypted DNS, it hides your browsing activity from your ISP or an government.
