How do I enable DHCP (Miracast) on my Windows 10 PC with LAN?

This says you could use Ethernet, but WiFi is also needed for discovery initially:

"Why do I still need Wi-Fi to use Miracast over infrastructure?

Discovery requests to identify Miracast receivers can only occur through the Wi-Fi adapter. Once the receivers have been identified, Windows 10 can then attempt the connection to the network."

That's OK. That's why I'm so confused. There doesn't seem to be any consensus on whether or not this works on LAN.

Ah, interesting. Wondering if I could temporarily add a WiFi adapter, make an initial connection, and then use LAN after that?

So bizarre though. I can use "Cast To.." features like streaming video and music files to my Samsung TV with LAN, but I can't do screen mirroring... it makes no sense haha.

"Cast to..." uses the DLNA protocol that connects via IP adresses. It doesn't care if your network connection is WiFi or Ethernet.

That's using 'Cast to...' and works on WiFi or Ethernet. That's great for casting movies from your PC to the TV, but what it can't do (and Miracast can) is project your PC desktop to the TV.

Honestly, if I could somehow cast OBS or VLC with DLNA would be fine, too! I could easily share audio and video from any of my screens.

This didn't work for me, though.

I thought all the methods were for "How to cast your Windows desktop to a smart TV without a cable, and mirror your desktop display onto your TV"

What's the difference between casting a movie to the TV vs projecting the PC desktop to the TV? Aren't they both projecting/casting what you'd see on the PC screen to the TV?

Good question - has to do with the fact that OBS and VLC can capture anything I want. I want a certain Twitch stream for example or a YouTube video, with no ads. Right now my crappy "Smart" TV doesn't have any capabilities like that. If I could just use VLC or OBS it would work.
