    windows 10 won't connect

    1. Bought new PC with windows 10 (dell xps13, a nice machine with 8gig ram & ssd)

    2. Connected to home wifi network without incident for approx 28 hrs. Now it doesn't connect.

    3. Wifi network seems fine. No other devices exhibit connectivity issues. Tried restarting PC to find same problem.

    3. Clicked on trouble shooting and 'windows network diagnostics' reports that ""Wi-fi" doesn't have a valid IP configuration."

What does this mean and how can I fix this?

Usually means you didn't connect to your WiFi router (typical home setup is your router is the dhcp server which assigns IP addresses to all connected devices). Can your laptop see the WiFi network you want to connect to?

Hello Dinosaurman24 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

The first question I have here for you would be are you running a new laptop with a built in WiFi adapter or trying to use something like a usb type external WiFi adapter? Here I run a second custom build with both hard wired ethernet connection to the ISP's modem/router/Wifi combination as well as dual booting with 7 where a usb Wifi adapter connects to a separate Linjsys router also plugged into the ISP's combination.

One of the reasons for asking about that is that the drivers for 10 are not available for the removable adapter for use when moving the mini tower case from room to room making that slightly portable while 7 does while 7 on the other hand will not connect by way of the ethernet even with the adapter unplugged or disabled. Yet 10 connects through the ethernet cable with the usb adapter lacking drivers and disabled. If you are using a separate adapter or added in a WiFi type nic card you could running into something similar. With a laptop on the other hand you may have to log in if the set up there has a firewall of some type. The Cisco Linksys router here does have one where the admin not guest account is how to connect while 7 on the hand as well as the laptops other people close by have use the Cisco set up key to connect by "account name assigned by you to router-(guest)".
