    Help projecting laptop to TV

Windows Version 2OH2 (OS Build 19042.1288)

Wondering if anybody can share suggestions on how I can better project my laptop on to my (brand new) 65 inch Samsung TV. I am able to do this by selecting "Connect to wireless display" in settings, but the problem is it will not stay connected. Sometimes it stays connected for maybe 10 minutes, sometimes for 1 minute, and anywhere inbetween, but sooner or later it always drops the connection and I have to re-initiate it. The laptop is in the same room as the TV and I have a good eero mesh wifi router system so I assume wifi signal is not the issue. Any suggestions on how I can get a more stable connection to my TV?

As an alternate approach, I have also tried to connect via the "Remote PC" option on my TV (rather than the "Screen Sharing" option). It requires me to enter my IP address (I used IPv4 address I found for my home network) and select the "RDP Protocol" for Windows, which I have done. But when I click on "connect" it just tells me it can't connect ant to make sure the PC is on (yes), connected to the network (yes) and that remote access is enabled. For the latter, I was not exactly sure how to enable remote access, but I went into Settings/For developers/, turned on Developer Mode and then switched Device Discovery to "on." But this still does not work.

So, I dunno. Any suggestions much appreciated!

I think your laptop has an HDMI port on the left side
If the Samsung has an HDMI that is the faultless method and perhaps not too difficult for you, them being in the same room

I know it is not what you asked, but I wondered if you had considered it.

re dropping the connection have you checked if the laptop is set for the wireless adapter NOT to turn off power to this device

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I could connect the laptop to the TV directly via an HDMI cable but was hoping to avoid the cords and hassle if I could easily connect wirelessly. And the wireless connection actually works great - until it drops a few minutes later!

I looked at Settings/WiFi/Change Adapter Options, but I did no see anywhere it allows me to tell the adapter to not turn off power to the device. Am I looking in the wrong place? Though, if that is the issue - wouldn't it always drop the connection after the same period of time? Weirdly, the time it takes to drop is completely random - sometimes it will drop every few minutes and sometimes it may go as long as 15 minutes before dropping.

What matters here is your Wifi connection to your router. Is the internet from your PC normally reliable?

How is your TV connected? Also by Wifi?

Can your TV access the internet reliably - it should have a browser- or stream from it reliably?

I.e. which connection seems to be the problem?

    settings on the laptop
    network and internet
    change adapter settings
    right click wireless adapter
    click properties
click configure button on the adapter
    on the window that opens
    power management tab

Yes, I have an eero mesh router system and strong wifi signal throughout the house - I have not noticed any wifi connectivity issues with any devices. The TV is connected via WiFi and works seamlessly for normal viewing and internet access - I don't even even get buffering problems. The only issue I have encountered is this inability to hold a wireless connection to the laptop. Maybe it is a laptop hardware issue? Unfortunately, I don't have a second computer I can use to test that hypothesis.

Amazing! I have been running it for an hour now with no drop out and it has never gone that long. I think this solved it - thank you so much! This was driving me crazy!

    you mean the power management
I am pleased to have helped a little.

Windows 10 has a reputation for being more power saving aware than previous OS and all you need is a brief moment for windows to detect that the connection is not actually using data at that moment and it will turn off power

Well, shoot. I am afraid I spoke too soon. It has gone back to dropping the connection every few minutes again even though I have confirmed that it is set to not turn off power to the wireless adapter. I'd be grateful for any other things I can try. Thanks!

Will always be subject to vagaries of your network capabilities.

That's why HDMI connection will prevail.
