Simple way to hare files between 2 PCs ?

Two desktop PCs, Windows 10, on the same workbench, one meter apart, each is for a specific task.

There are times that I need one or a few files which are saved on the other PC. I need something like a USB cable linking the 2 PCs so that I can access files on either one of the two. Do not want anything sophisticated. just a simple piece of cable if possible.

The Ethernet cable will occupy the internet port. How do I use the internet if the Ethernet cable is plugged in?Do I have to have some kind of a hub?

Looks like you can only do PC-to-PC, etc with an Ethernet crossover cable: see What are Ethernet Crossover Cables? | Computer Cable Store
