    is VPN worth the money

I am curious about vpn but I hardly ever see any discussions about it. Is it worth the money asked for it. Thanks

It depends, what are you trying to hide?

If you are not trying to hide something then you are just paying to slow your internet connection and potentially risk your privacy by outsourcing your browsing to some unregulated company that you know nothing (or just what is written on the internet) about.

My VPN is worth it. It's free. It's built into my router and allows me to connect my computers/tablets/phones to my home network when working remotely via the internet.

One of the advantages of my free VPN via my router is that while on the road I can connect to my xfinitiy streaming TV services without the error message "You must be attached to your home WiFi network to view this channel."

Hello, it depends what you want to use it for. I don't use one but the only real benefit of a VPN is to change your location if you are somewhere with limited internet, like in China.

As long as the website you are using has a lock in the title bar, it's essentially a VPN, the data is encrypted so cannot be read whist in transit. It doesn't stop you giving your data to a bad website, even if the site has a lock, SSL certificates are easy and cheap.

What did you want to use if for?

Mine is free in my router too! :) besides your use, i use it to SSH/RDP into my network without having ports open to be hammered on.

    Hi there
Apart from all the other things people do on home computers -- without VPN's just think how difficult it would be for people to work remotely. OK these VPN's aren't being paid for by home users but corporates value them and of course they think they are worth the money.

So the real question should be are they worth the money -- whoever is paying -- not just from the point of a Home consumer wanting to watch a Netflix or TV program not available in their home country. The answer should definitely be a yes in most cases.

    Cheers

It depends on what you want a vpn for, what are you looking to get out of it?
