Can Share Folder But Not Subfolders And Files

    Hi,

I have two Windows 10 Pro machines on the same LAN. These can see each other no problem.

I want to share a folder on machine B so that it is visible on machine A, with full access rights. I have followed various tutorials online and can make the folder itself visible (let's call it \\B:\SharedFolder). There are only two machines on this network so security is not an issue, so I simply assigned the following permission to the folder: Everyone - Full Control.

On machine A, this folder appears but when I try to access the contents of the folder, I get a dialog saying I do not have the required permission. When this happened before, I am sure I got a dialog box, prompting me for a username and password with access to the folder but this does not happen.

I know this question is vague and probably tedious, having being asked many times before, but can anyone please suggest a process I can go through to get this working again? I guess what I am after is some kind of nuclear option, where I remove all shares and permissions and re-apply them from scratch.

The thing I am struggling to understand is the inherited permissions. I would have thought, when sharing a folder, the default option whereby all sub-folders and files inherit the parent's permissions would be the way to go but this doesn't work. I therefore went through the process of replacing permissions on all children of \\B:\SharedFolder, which may be where I have managed to break things.

Any help would be very gratefully received. I've been tearing out what little hair I have remaining for days over this now.

    Kind wishes - Patrick

Hi, you shouldn't need to change the security permissions on the folder to share it over a network.

    Please see:

and work through that carefully, noting how share permissions can be granted.

    (let's call it \\B:\SharedFolder)
What I see with my NAS is needed to be \\LS222xxxxx\Public [\\devicename\folder on it]. I Map the folder set up when I attached the NAS drive to the LAN via Ethernet cable to the Router.
