So Google came and dug the fiber trench in the back yard a few weeks ago and slapped a gray box on the back of the house. Then this past Sunday the inside installer came and hooked it all up.

And it all works well. More channels. Central DVR accessible from all rooms. Records seven shows at once, and you can still be watching other things all the while. And the internet speed is 100 Mbps both up and down.

All for $40 less than the Time Warner service (which had 100 up and 11 down, two-program DVR available only in one room, and you had to watch program two when you're recording two).

Now time will tell whether Google has the same price-hiking penchant that TW did. TW had me at $120 four years ago, and it steadily rose to $220. What will Google do?

I went from paying $300/m to Comcast for HDTV, phone, and 150/20 internet to $165/m for HDTV and Gigabit internet from Verizon. Granted Verizon is a promo price but at least I cut my bill nearly in half for a year or so.

I got ATT Fiber installed in Jan but was getting different reading with different apps. I found "Speedtest by Ookla" in the Windows Store and it requires W10.
