Thanks. That's pretty much what I expected, but not what I hoped for.

I think it depends on where you live. In Europe, they tend to get excellent bandwidth fo very little. In the US it seems to cost much more for way less. I live in a very rural area where we have 1 option for high speed internet. For the past 10 years I have paid $50 a month for half of the speeds you quoted. (3 down and .25 UP). They have just upgraded their equipment and came out with a plan for high speed for 'new' customers for what I was paying. After I called them and 'discussed' it with them they decided to upgrade me too. So, for the same money I get 24/1 now. But, it's a Bonded DSL. Speedtest most of the time will not read both DSL lines and only reads 1 of them. Almost every other bandwidth testing service reads both. Some places in the US, you can get a lot more for a little less. So, it just depends on what your options are. This is what I get now.

Using the same one as you Steve, Germany to Virginia. For Telephone and Internet 25/5 I pay currently 19.90 Euro($21.84) after a few more months, when the special price for signing up is over it will rise to only 29.90($32.82) per month. I get mine for the local Utilities company(Water, Electricity, Internet and Phone) so I get it cheaper than someone else that doesn't use the Water & Electricity from the utilities.

The power of optical fiber (Verizon fios). Loving it, specially for uploading backups to cloud.

I recently moved up from 25MBPS to 50MBPS because the 50 package had 250G monthly download usage as a standard and I was paying extra for it with the 25 MBPS package.

I'm paying $73 (CDN)/month plus taxes, it's a fibre network. I figure as usual we Canadians are paying much more for internet service as most things. Can some of the U.S. members tell me what they are paying for a similar 50MBPS speed, 250G download package.

I pay about $40 American (about $56 Canadian) for 8Mbps. I'm paying 77% of what you pay for 13% of the download speed, so I'd consider what you pay for what you get a bargain. Of course, one person isn't a representative sample.

You're getting a pretty good deal, I have 50/5 through a cable company in Canada.
I pay $80 a month only difference is I get 500GB which is never enforced.
