Previously I could look from 64bits into 32bits - although I could not access anything there, at least I saw it. Now that is not even the case. I can see that a wizard can be any help in this situation.

But I did type fsmgmt.msc into RUN and saw a listing of drives other than C:\; but again USERS seemed to be being pushed, which is NOT where the files are that I'd want to copy over.
It is showing the default shares, which are set to User over (rather than) the whole machine. Make a new share. You can browse through the whole machine, it will start with User folder, but look down the list, you should see the drives, then drill down till you find the folder you want to share.

Something to note also, once you have setup your shared folders, you technically don't need to move any of them, just access via the share. This is true unless of course you have a file system and saving structure you are maintaining, which sounds the case.

"I cannot think for the life of me why you prefer usb" - try this one : I already have the PC-Linq; I used to use it between 98E and XP - very user-friendly, whereas, I have been trying for days to get the ethernet working and it does not.

"unless of course you have a file system and saving structure you are maintaining," I just want to copy some (usually small or tiny) files between the PCs - NOTHING ELSE. It can be easily done with USB sticks (thumb drives ?), and it used to be easy with PC-Linq.

Sure but if it is only a small amount of files, it is easier to just do it via router and install teamviewer on each pc and use its file transfer interface.

The easiest method is to use a 'USB stick'; but I agree that Team Viewer would come a close second best.

Since that does not work for me, I'd love to find a compatible 'driver' for the USB cross-over cable.
I'm not so sure whether there would be such a thing any longer. X-over cabling is so Windows 98 and even if it was possible with Windows 10, then i would suspect it would be native to Win10 - i.e. just plug in the cables, Win 10 would recognise the hardware and look after the drivers, and it would work.

The many options offered/suggested above are the more obvious ones, and are native to Windows 10. It may be a learning process but whatever method is tried will hold in good stead for all future requirements.

Thank you to all those who've made well meant suggestions.

I'll just repeat that there was a quote on the web whose URL I gave in my first post, claiming success with PC_Linq in Win10.
Success that has evaded ME so far.

PC-Linq product web site refers to a "driverless" product. So only the software (run as Admin and in XP mode) should be required (which you have indicated you tried)

How did you do this latter requirement?
I note the product web site refers to a USB 2.0 connection. If there's any volume of data to be transferred .... ZZZZZZZZZ. Any of the above alternatives are likely to be quicker.

Speed is not a requirement as the files are few and small.

'How did you do this latter requirement?'
There is a standard procedure for installing and running As Administrator, just as there is for Compatibility Mode. I'm assuming you are talking about my recent attempts in Win10, because THEY are what failed; my attempts with 98E and XP succeeded.
