Unfortunately I cannot offer any assistance with USB connection, never done that. I did have a search and found this:
https://www.usbgear.com/windows-10-d...fer-cable.html
Looks like there is something out there, somewhere.

Thank you.
I'll follow it up.
Any time.
p.s. Have a think about the network share. I have an app on my phone I can view all my files on, that's brilliant. I have a NAS drive with my files on in RAID, essentially, if my machine blows up, I setup a new one and all my files are there. I couldn't live without the connectivity, I have cables running through my house to various things. I'll leave it with you.
If you have more than one PC, I don't know how you live without a proper network configuration .
It opens so many possibilities.
Move files between systems rapidly.
Automate synchronizing of files between machines super easy.
Perform backups to one central system or a device such as a NAS.
Setup media servers such as Plex, etc.
Much more.
@Sebastian42 If the sharing options are missing are you using an account with Admin permissions?
Whatever, this should help for USB to USB How to Connect Two Computers Using USB: 13 Steps (with Pictures)
Clam 1952 - There is only one account and it has Admin privilege; I am looking into restoring the Sharing tab in properties of HDDs. Thank you for the USB reference - will investigate.
Cereberus - likewise - thank you for the reference. My preference is for USB, but I will examine it.
hsehestedt - Believe me, I can live a computing life without all the extras you mention - I can also transfer files using a USB stick, but I thought I would try and put to use a cross-over cable I have had for a long time, but lack software for that is compatible with Win10.
TidySean - your URL has opened up various leads for me - a work-in-progress
Hey, something I have found following messing up some shares is something called fsmgmt.msc.
It helps to create and edit shares and has a wizzard for creating shares. I think I'll use this mostly. You can see Sessions and Open Files also. It is access via run and entering in fsmgmt.msc. Select the Shares folder, right click on the right hand pane and select New Share.
Previously I could look from 64bits into 32bits - although I could not access anything there, at least I saw it. Now that is not even the case. I can see that a wizard can be any help in this situation.
But I did type fsmgmt.msc into RUN and saw a listing of drives other than C:\; but again USERS seemed to be being pushed, which is NOT where the files are that I'd want to copy over.
I cannot think for the life of me why you prefer usb when the fastest way is using ethernet. It is cheaper (just a simple cable), and does not need any software. It does take a little bit of learning but if you want to network pcs, you have to learn anyway.
Sharing drives is well covered in the tutorials in this forum.
The only part that is slightly non intuitive is to set manual IP addresses but many web guides how to do this.
