Need a device to hook to 2.4ghz only...

This isn't really Windows 10 related. Moderators...if I'm breaking some rules, feel free to lock this thread.

I have a smart lock that only hooks to 2.4ghz networks. I have a mesh network that handles both 5 and 2.4. It often hooks up fine. But recently for some reason, it is disconnecting a lot.

When I spoke to their support, for now I need a workaround: set up a DHCP address for it that only uses 2.4. Of course, that isn't possible on the mesh system I have. They said the alternative is to get a 2.4 lan extender, and do the DHCP there.

I'm not sure how I would configure it to just pull an address from the extender. Seems to me it would take an address from whichever router/extender responded first.

    Any thoughts?

Why cant you just use a 2g wireless only adapter?

On some router and mesh system there is an option for the devices to automatically connect on the 2 bands 2,5ghz and 5ghz. If you have this option and it is enabled you should disable it.
In the wifi mac address filtering I can filter the 2.5GHZ or 5ghz band for devices.

Try a reboot of the full mesh system.

In my Asus RT-AX92U (2-pack) mesh system's settings I have an IPTV tab that lets me choose which LAN port on the primary node I want DHCP disabled. So the separate DHCP server upstream is able to assign an IP to a Set Top Box or similar device through this port, but even with wired backhaul it only works on the primary node, not the secondary one so as a result I ended up using my mesh system in AP mode, which does work with the 2-pack RT-AX92U─and it works beautifully IME. With this particular mesh system also I can choose whether I want separate SSIDs to be used for each band, i.e. by disabling a feature called Smart Connect. Doing this will ensure that all my IoT devices stay on the 2.4Ghz band at all times. Further, to prevent my IoT devices from starting to roam as a result from possible interference, I added their MAC ID to the roaming blacklist table in the mesh system's settings. I wasn't exactly a big fan of mesh until recently. Loads of people online who seem like they know what they are doing have been complaining in several many ways about mesh... As it pans out, though, not all mesh systems are created equal. Recent firmware updates released by Asus are what finally made me cave─and use The Force. I haven't regretted my decision so far.
