Need help accessing my security system

I have a security system that's about 10 years old. With the slow help of some technicians I was able at one point to get pictures onto my computer screen in addition to the dummy monitor provided. The monitor does not have video out but the system can be accessed on my computer monitor over the internet.

Now several computers and routers later I can't view the pictures on my computer. I want to record an accident and I can do that with some capture software that I have but I need the video on my computer - not the dummy monitor. I did copy several screen captures during setup but am only providing a couple here.

So what I need help on is figuring out what IP address I need to access to see the system video. I tried the one blanked out on the attached JPG and it doesn't work any more.

Any help will be appreciated - thanks

Assuming the video system is on your local network and not somewhere on the Internet, you could use AngryIP Scanner to find all the active addresses.

Thanks but the program that you suggest didn't help. It found IP addresses for only 3 of the 13 sources identified by my Netgear ORBI router.

It seems that somewhere in my past I heard about pinging or something to that effect - maybe unrelated. I'm out of my knowledge base on these things.

Did you try the 3 IP addresses that Angry IP Scanner found?

I assume that you have a CCTV recorder/server box that all the cameras are connected to, yes?

So you're looking for the IP address of this box, so that you can connect to it with your PC and access the video files.

Do you have physical access to the box? Have you looked to see if the IP address is printed on a label anywhere on it?

Do you have the instructions for the box? Does it have a 'default' IP address listed in there?

The 'ping' command is useful, but it needs an address to work with so doesn't help if you don't know what address you need.

Just realised that on your screen-shot it shows the MAC address for the box. This should be fixed, no matter what the IP address is.

So you can try this: Open a command prompt window (press Windows and X, then click Command Prompt) and then type "arp -a" (without quotes). In the list of IP addresses that is produced, see if you can match one to the MAC address from your screen-shot. That will be the one to use.

If the MAC address you want is not listed, you can try this: Open a command prompt and then type 'arp -s ipaddr macaddr' (without quotes). Replace 'ipaddr' with any IP address that is not being used and replace 'macaddr' with the MAC address from your screen shot.

So for instance, you might type something like 'arp -s 192.168.0.200 00:1A:C2:7B:00:47', which would associate 192.168.0.200 with the MAC address 00:1A:C2:7B:00:47. You could then access the box using 192.168.0.200.

Is the IP address that is blanked out 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x and is your current network on the corresponding range?

I know a lot of ISP's like to change between the two these days.

Thanks. Both the blanked IP address and my current Orbi router have IP addresses 192.168.1.x

I have contacted Kguard support but the time difference (China) and I believe text being brokered by an intermediary has me wondering if they are even offering support with my out-of-warranty system. I can't get to the system screens captured in my OP. If I could I might be able to stumble around and learn more.

    Did you try this?

If you didn't see the MAC address listed, given that your IP addresses are in the range 192.168.1.x, then the second command should be:

    arp -s 192.168.1.200 macaddr

where you replace macaddr with the MAC address from your 2nd screenshot. You should then be able to access the box using 192.168.1.200.

By the way, it seems that KGuard have a Facebook support page that might be quicker:

Thanks so much for your continued support. I now have found the IP address for my system but still cannot get the video onto my desktop, Correct that the MAC address hasn't changed and the command that you shared does show a number of MAC/IP pairs - but nothing pairing with the MAC of my system. As you can see, none of the physical addresses have "C5" as the final characters.

I did some digging into the native support on the system and there are a few menus that provide additional information. See the attached JPG. I tried switching from DHCP to a static IP address and that didn't help.

It seems that when I worked on this a decade ago there was something called port forwarding?? Is that what is needed here? Apparently simply typing the IP address into a browser won't bring the video forward.

Thanks again for your support.Need help accessing my security system-tenforums-1.jpg

Try using vlc and use rtsp:// with the IP and port.
