Try using vlc and use rtsp:// with the IP and port.
sorry, but You're ahead of my knowledge. If you mean VLC Video Player I must be using wrong syntax. I used rtsp:// with the IP address and the Media Port and/or WEB Port and get nothing but an error. Am I using the wrong site or syntax? Can you provide more detail?

    Thanks

I did some digging into the native support on the system and there are a few menus that provide additional information. See the attached JPG. I tried switching from DHCP to a static IP address and that didn't help.Attachment 342799
Glad to hear we're making some progress.

Can you tell us the name and/or part number of the system? KGuard have some manuals available from their website that might be of use if we knew which one to look at.

I don't quite understand what you mean here; what is "native support"?

How exactly did you access the menus shown in your pictures? Through a browser (like Internet Explorer or Google Chrome)? Are there any other menus? Can you post screenshots of them?

I understand that you are being cautious by blanking out anything you think might be sensitive in your screen shots, but there isn't really any need and it makes it difficult for us to understand what's going on.

When trying to access the DVR webpage from your browser have you tried both HTTP and HTTPS ?

I have a manual for the system but for me it doesn't help. It's either too basic or too difficult for me to understand. Believe me - that's the first place that I looked and it doesn't help.

By native support I mean that I can right-click on the system output (video) WITH THE SYSTEM MOUSE (not my desktop mouse) and it brings up a series of menus

I'm attaching a picture with no blanking. The 2 pics on the left are screenshots and the 2 on the right are cell phone camera shots of the actual menu returns from the system. The sub-menu is "Network". Other menu items are for setting the time, certain options, etc. There is not an option to send the video to e.g., another monitor. That needs to be done over the Internet.

That does help actually. I can now see that you have an SHA14 system, which I found a manual for here.

Chapter 5 has some notes about connecting to the DVR using Internet Explorer which might be of use.

Otherwise, I found a note about installing a plug-in to view the cameras but unfortunately the link seems to be dead.

Another option is to install KGuard's KViewCenter software and try that. You can download it from here and find a software manual for it here.

    Hope this helps.

I found what I THINK may be a good 10-minute video tutorial for doing what I want step-by-step. I'm doing fine until about minute 7 regarding port forwarding. I can access my router and can see my Kguard system but can't get it onto the "allowed" area of my router. Also, I've tried the Open port checking tool and the utility can't see the Kguard video output.

I'm going to continue working on this via other You Tube videos and whatever I can find but I'll appreciate any suggestions that you networking experts can offer.Need help accessing my security system-port-forwarding.jpg

Just to be clear; the DVR and the computer you want to access it from are both at the same location and connected to the same router (or network switch), correct?

If that is correct, then port forwarding is not the answer.

Port forwarding is used when trying to access the DVR from another location via the Internet.

Your screenshot shows that the DVR is already allowed by the router's access control, but is not currently connected to the network. That suggests that it has at some point in the past been connected and allowed, so if it were connected again it would automatically move into the upper section.

I think we need to go back and find out why the DVR does not appear to be physically connected to the network. The goal here is to get the DVR into the upper part of that screenshot.

Here are some things to do:

    1. Take a look at the rear panel of the DVR and make sure that there is a cable connected to the port marked 'LAN'. Then trace the other end of that cable and make sure that it is connected to your router (or a network switch that is then connected to your router). If there isn't or it looks damaged in any way...

    2. You have four devices listed as 'wired'; ACER_DESKTOP, JOEY-MOCA and HOPPER3-BAR and JOEY-AP. Are any of these close enough to the DVR that you could (temporarily) swap network cables with the DVR (I'd guess you are trying to access the DVR from ACER_DESKTOP, so NOT that one)? If you can't, then....

    3. Do you have a spare network cable or could you buy one to replace the one going from the DVR to the router (or switch)?

Are you able to access all menus with a mouse and keyboard connected directly to the unit? Have you tried turning everything off, then reboot router and turn on. Have you tried setting a static IP on a computer and only connected it to the LAN port of the DVR.

I'm convinced that I need to use port forwarding to do exactly what I want. This is from some old discussions with Kguard. But I did find a workaround to record. I purchased a VGA to RCA converter and with other hardware that I have I was able to hook into the security VGA output and record from RCA video out.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
