    It's version 2.0, in x1 it gives you 4 Gbit / s (or 5.0 gt / s = Giga Transfer per second).
The problem is not with the slot configured on x1.
I don't see any other solution, sorry.
    Wait for other people.

    I have a few questions:

    1. Why don't you just use the built-in 1GB LAN port? It appears to be working pretty good.
    2. Why are you trying for a faster LAN speed? Do you have faster that Gigabit Internet? 900-950 Mbps is typical for Gigabit Internet. BTW, I have 1200 Mbps down Internet. None of my computers get faster than 950 Mbps.
    3. Are you sure your power supply can supply enough power to the board? Specs shows the power supply is only 180W.

    1. My ISP provides 1200mbps for my plan, so I wanted to make full use of it

    2. The inbuilt LAN port caps at 930-940 mbps, so i wanted to see if I could use a faster card

    3. My power supply seems adequate, never had any issue with any device in my room.

By the way, I found this online, I am just not sure if I'm out of luck

Will a regular PCI Express card work in a "PCI Express x16 Graphics (PEG)" slot? - Super User

So is the pcie x16 slot is only for applicable graphics and does not use all bus lanes for network? For my motherboard specs, under Expansion Slots it says there's One PCIe x16 socket, One PCIe x1 socket

From what I hear, that is Windows 10 doing. You can test it in live linux comparison. If you setup IP/DNS manually and disable IPv6, "Network Store Interface Service" and all protocols, network might work better.

You can also try SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads

Yes, the router supports gigabit. I am getting gigabit speed with my inbuilt network card. I don't have duplex enabled, only auto negotiation.
So what made you think that adding a 2.5 gigabit card would do? Other than the weird 100 mbps thing, it will not in any way get you a faster connection to the router if the router only has GB ports.

Thanks for the link, I will see if it helps!

My ISP provides higher speed than advertised, one of the agent on live chat said its sending 1200mbps through my modem which would be accessible with the right hardware (I used to get 600 mbps and higher with my old 500mbps plan). However since I'm only getting 100mbps, that's my only concern atm.

You can not get 1200 out of a 1000 port, no matter what the agent may have said.

Do you have the Comcast Gigabit plan (1200 Mbps down & 35 Mbps up)?

    Gateway: Comcast XB7-T (Technicolor CGM4331COM)
LAN Speed (Ports 1-3) 1000 Mbps LAN
    LAN Speed (Port 4) 2500 Mbps WLAN/LAN

Are you trying to use Port 4 with its faster speed? I have read with that port some people are getting 1200-1400 Mbps. Of course these people are using a faster LAN connection on their PC than the usual 1000 Mbps.

Not too likely above the 49th parallel. I wish we did have more options up here.

I have no idea where the OP'er lives but this link shows only 2 providers offering more than 1GB. Also, this listing is for Toronto, no other city in Canada likely has that many ISPs available.

I believe the 5000MB plan listed above is a typo and should read 500MB as per the reviews. That leaves only one ISP above 1GB, offering 1500MB. I'm not convinced that's real either, I'll check directly with the ISP.

Surprisingly enough, Bell Canada does offer an unlimited 1500MB package for only $129.95/month (he said sarcastically). Too bad many of the reviewer's are very unhappy with the service.

Or, the OP'er could identify his modem make & m/n & ISP.

Likely find that he has Rogers gigabit and it is over provisioned seeing as gigabit cable tops out around 940 mbps.
