Cannot see other pc on home network

I have two computers connected to a home network. Both can get to the internet but both cannot see each other. Ping goes through between them. I got the following message while troublshooting:
Website (XXXXXX) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. XXXXXX is the name of the computer.
OSes of the two computers are W10Pro v.21H1 and W10 Pro v.20H2

    Any idea?

Does each computer have sharing enabled?

    Hi, history please:
    a. Were these previously networked successfully?
    b. If so, what may have happened that broke that, or happened around the time it stopped working?
    c. Or is this a new network you're setting up or new devices you're adding to an existing network?

    Thanks.

I have three PCs and normally two of them are on. In the past, sometimes p-to-p connection did not work and instead of troubleshooting I oftentimes used a USB flash memory to copy files to another PC.
This time around, I just assembled a new PC and replaced one which was being used as a sub(PC #2). I am now in the process of setting up the new machine.
For an experimental purpose, I connected to the network another PC(PC #3) being the same generation as PC #1 but I am seeing the same problem.
So far everything else with the new machine appears working but the p-to-p networking problem.

Suggestions for possible remedy are appreciated.

Ok, so you had 2 where networking sometimes worked, and you're hoping to add a 3rd.
I will assume all are running Win 10.

    See:
Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10
    Option 1
and methodically work through all the settings. First time I did it I had to check twice. It's frustratingly inconvenient.

Note that with Win 10 you don't need SMB1 enabled. It's a disadvantage to do so. Check this is disabled on all PCs.

I had networking working quite well with build 1903 on both PCs. Then I upgraded 1 to 20H2 and had to do something to get that seeing the 1903 PC again. After upgrading the same one to 21H1 - networking only works from the 1903 PC.

I'm trying to work up enough enthusiasm to try again!

Networking for me works most of the time. However, there are times when one or more computers can't see each other. Instead of wasting a lot of time trying to fix things or resort to using a flash drive I can usually fall back on my backup method. The following works as long as the computers can at least ping each other.

The Network folder shows 3 computer in my network. Sometimes for no reason they don't show up in Network.

Cannot see other pc on home network-network1.jpg

My solution is to use my fallback method
First create a folder called My Network.
Create a shortcut to each computer in the network.

Cannot see other pc on home network-network2.jpg

The following shows how to create a shortcut to a computer in the network
For example the shortcut to a computer called DarkMatter is \\DarkMatter

Cannot see other pc on home network-link.jpg

On the left is Network with the computers in my network. It works most of the time.
When it doesn't I open the My Network folder and use the shortcuts there.

    See:

I reviewed the above link but could not find anything wrong. IP assigned to each PC shows they are connected to a common network but Network on Windows Explorer returns no computer.
I ran the Network Troubleshooter using IP instead of the computer name but the same message is displayed or "Website (192.168.1.xx) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. (XX is part of the IP address.)
There must be something wrong with the network settings. I did not have this much networking trouble with W7 or the earlier version of Windows.

I created My Network folder on the Desktop. But I did not understand how to create short-cut of each computer. Could you provide further details to do that?

I will go through it step by step how I created the shortcut to the network computer called DarkMatter.

    1. Start with two existing shortcuts to computers EventHorizon and Lightning.

Cannot see other pc on home network-shortcut1.jpg

    2a. Right-click in clear area
    2b. Select New
    2c. Select Shortcut

Cannot see other pc on home network-shortcut2.jpg

    3a. Enter: \\DarkMatter
    3b. Click Next

Note: network names start with "\\"

Cannot see other pc on home network-shortcut3.jpg

    4a. Enter: DarkMatter (default name)
    4b. Click Finish

Cannot see other pc on home network-shortcut4.jpg

    5. Shortcut to network computer DarkMatter is finished.

    Hi there
As a test install Filezilla (free) on one of the computers -- then open it and see if you can access any of the other ones. You need to enter sftp://computer name. If it shows the directory of the "remote" computer it shows the network is OK. You can send files both ways of course.

I'm on a Linux host but the GUI is identical on Windows

(The system saves connections in Quick connect so easy to use).

Also does "Map network drive work" if you enter either the ip address or the computer name manually.

Hopefully as well you've enabled "Allow incoming connections from remote computers" on all the windows machines.

    Cheers
