What is a good type of adapter for making a wifi hotspot

External, ethernet, usb? When I check netsh for "hosted network supported" on my laptop internal wifi adapter, it isn't (QCA9377, Aspire 3, Windows 1803).

Can I find a workaround for the internal adapter of should I buy something else?

    Could you supply more details?

Maybe I'm being too literal, but what I imagine is that your laptop contains a cell phone network modem, and that you'd like to be able to use that to make the laptop function as a WiFi hotspot, similarly to what could be done with a smart phone (iPhone, Android).

If you just want it to function as a wireless router, you'd be better served to buy one of those.

There is no internet on this machine, I just want another device to connect to it. An ad-hoc network, where the other device looks for a wifi hotspot to connect. Then it is networked to the laptop which can see and use it.

I'm led to believe that W10 can arrange this with some simple wifi adapters as long as they support "hosted network". It is the same as has been possible with previous windows versions, and it isnt "internet connection sharing".

    My apologies.

I had no idea that a laptop could be used as a wireles router. I see that it can. (Preferably with an Ethernet connection to the laptop, but maybe with two WiFi adapters.)

A quick Web search suggests that it should be easy to set up an "ad hoc" WiFi network between compatible PCs. Never done it. Not up for the experiment.
