Apparently the belkin n300 router only has 10/100 Mbps ethernet ports. You need 1000 Mbps.
You can test the router wifi which is at 300 Mbps.

I think we may have the culprit here. I swapped the cable to the computer from the router to the modem, bypassing the router. NOW look at my speed...

Also, I did not have ipv6 when using the router..it was ipv4 only. Now, here is the test IPv6 result:
    Attachment 337643
My router is Belkin N300. Is there anything I can do in the settings to get it faster, or is this router not capable? Or is a router supposed to slow it down that much? Its only a few years old.

    That's excellent news.

An interesting test would be to try both ping tests (-4 & -6) while directly connected to the modem, then we would have a baseline. Then compare results of the ping tests using the router.

Also, while directly connected to the modem, do you experience any YouTube buffering?

If you can demonstrate that the router is adding significantly to the latency performance or causing the YouTube buffering, your best bet is to go shopping for a newer router.

We may be able to squeak a bit more speed out of it but I'd be cautious updating the firmware to gain the IPv6 protocol and a bit more throughput. Older routers occasionally brick themselves during firmware updates.

The specs online are a bit deceptive, many just say 300 Mbps, however; the Belkin site says 150 Mbps max X2, if you use 2 bands. LOL

The OS specs don't even mention Windows 10.

This router claims to be IPv6 compatible using the latest firmware.

I would recommend looking for a dual band 802.11AC or 802.11AX. There are plenty of dual band routers available using either of those protocols, anything less is just not worth your time. Keep in mind that some older WLAN cards may only function with 802.11b/g/n, however; you'd be upgrading security & performance characteristics for the future and the immediate gain would be an Ethernet connection capable of delivering your ISP's specified throughput.

What about a router that claims speeds of "300mbps + 700mbps"? The NetGear AC1000 is dual band and 11ac. There's another model with "300 + 867". There are others that say can handle 30 or 40+ devices and 2500sq ft but I don't need that much.

Purchasing a router is the same as most any other technical device, buyer beware and read the reviews.

Post links to these devices you're questioning and we can have a look.

Anything that says "300mbps + 700mbps", I'd be suspicious. Plenty of them spec 1 Gbps or 950Mbps, as far as I know.
Thanks to itsme1 for clarifying this denotation.

Have a look at this router. It has dual band & Mu-MIMO.

Another important feature to have is the ability to adjust wifi channels. I'm not certain if all the newer routers have this feature or not.

300mbps + 700mbps this means that the router will send a 2.4 GHz wifi network at 300mbps + another 5 GHz wifi network at 700mbps. On your devices, computers, smartphones etc. you can choose to connect to the 2.4 GHz network for example for the smartphone and for the computer on the 5 GHz network.

It is a simultaneous wifi network router, on the other hand there are selectable wifi network routers where you can only send the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network at a time.

The NetGear AC1000 does not have 1000mbps ethernet ports

I see. The Netgear 2600 (R7450 model) shows that it has gigabit ethernet ports, and it says 800Mbps 2.4GHz + 1733Mbps 5GHz. So this one would be a better choice?

If this is the device, it looks great. This device does have adjustable wifi channels according to the manual but I'm not certain of how many it has to choose from. Otherwise, it looks good.

    I have the link ... Nighthawk R7450 - AC2600 Dual-Band WiFi Router | NETGEAR

Yes it has 1000mbps ethernet ports.
I doubt you need all of his technical ability. That of W10 Tweaker is cheaper and "more reasonable".

Also consider the wifi router 6 to be ready for the future

The router I posted above is $60, the R7450 is $76. Either device will perform well for home use. I'm not sure I could justify the additional $16, that's your call.

I had only seen the price on the netgear site at $ 199.

Between the two references it would be necessary to know if their maximum bandwidth is 160 MHz. To reach or even exceed 1 Gbit, the current maximum speed most commonly found in ISP offers, with a 3x3 router you need this 160 MHz band otherwise it will be a speed of around 700mbps with the bandwidth 80mhz.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Neither has the 160mhz bandwidth.

In an article that I had in favorites routers with the bandwidth of 160mhz was indicated. I give you the router part below:

"So, to find the devices concerned, it is necessary for the moment to use tricks. For the moment we have spotted the WRT3200ACM and WRT32X from Linksys or the Archer VR2800 from TP-Link. Netgear seems the most prolific manufacturer with its Nighthawk X4S (R7800) launched in 2016 and Nighthawk X10 (R9000).

More recently, it is the Nighthawk XR500 (see our test) which was entitled to this feature, just like its newly announced big brother: the XR700. ASUS is not left out with certain models like the RTAC87U or RT-AC88U. "

The wifi adapter must be 160mhz compatible.

My advice, take the cheapest netgear listed above in a comment, and later upgrade to a wifi router 6 (AX).
