Best wifi setup AT&T Pace 5268AC

I have AT&T 46mbs (best I can get from them). They use the Pace 5268AC combo router modem (gateway). I have an option to run 2.4 with a separate SSID from the 5ghz side. This then presents BOTH bands. If the SSIDs are the same I only SEE one selection for a wifi connection. I can still connect 2.4 devices. But I'm wondering which way would be better. Two IDs or the same IDs?

I don't like the 5268. It's junk. I've been on 5ghz with this device for 5 years and it's been replaced at least 6 times! Just totally dies and it's not the power brick that fails. I'm about ready to drop them and switch to Spectrum 200gbs I'm just leery of their reputation for service.

Yes, use individual SSIDs for each network.

You can set Windows up to connect to both of them [although only one can be connected at a time] and can give priority to the 5GHz one so you get its advantages - speed & relatively uncluttered spectrum. The simplest way to do this is
    - Set it up to connect to the 2.4GHz one first [auto-connect, enter its security key - i.e. just do as you would normally do], and then
    - Set it up to connect to the 5GHz one [do the same].
The one you set up last is assumed by Windows to be the higher priority. There are other ways of doing it in addition to this simple way - see

The is also a setting to make sure Windows releases you from the slower one to be able to switch to the faster one if both are available.

Ever considered putting it in bridge mode,

AT&T U-verse Pace Plc 5268AC bridge mode (with caveat) – DraconPern

    and using your own router?

Yeah I have a TPlink A10 router I tried to do this with but it was a fail for me. I can't recall what the issue was but it was a big enough problem to make me switch back. OFS (Old Fart Syndrome) and it was just a week ago. Funny thing is BEFORE I turned off the wifi on the Pace BOTH SSIDs were the same. I could see both 2.4 and 5ghz when connecting devices on wifi. Like my phone and tablet. Since turning wifi back on I only see one SSID but can connect to 2.4 if that is all that device has available (like my tablet only has 2.4). It's no big deal. I'll go into the Pace and make the change to the SSIDs it just makes me curious as to why it's different now.

You might find it useful to use NirSoft's WiFiInfoView to be able to see details of each detected network signal.

    Just an idea,
