We should change the default username/password afterward right? The old netgear wifi, we never changed the wifi name or password ever. W e used the original username/password that with the netgear router many years ago.But are you also saying doing that is good for security? Such as just change the wifi name and password so even though its on the router itself, well that isn't your username/password?

Well our netgear router wifi username was something like netgear...xxxxx numbers so we know what it is... I mean i see other wifi networks near us and almost all of them are very similar etc... Someone say its a great way to invite people to connect to and mess with your network. But thats only if they have access to your router right? Since well thats where the username/password is?

The only thing right now is im not sure if i have a bit of buyers remorse or not. A gain i bought the ac2600 router over the axl800 router because so many reviews on RANGE. But when i look at the extenders, why is it the ac2600 so expensive? Its almost l00 dollars or so. But the axl800 is about 35 dollars.

But what about a powerline adapter? Someone originally told me to buy the axl800 and buy this for 50 dollars.

    Amazon.com

would this be also compatible with the ac2600?

That person said it would with the axl800. Thing is we still havent opened the box yet because they dont have the time to set up the router yet. So now im a bit contemplating if we should keep it or not. But you say just keep this one as oppose to the axl800 right? Again we havent opened the box yet.

Here in the EU we have the legal right to send the stuff back within 14 days after purchasing online. I just bit the bullet and ordered an Asus RT-AX92U (2 pack) that should be here day after tomorrow... will let you know how well this thing plays with my laptop's internal Intel WiFi 6 AX201 card.

You can change the password for more security but on condition that it is longer than the default one otherwise it is useless. Leave the default names.

People cannot connect to your wifi if you have a long password. In the router options there is a type of security to choose which is better than the other types of security. By default on your router the security is on auto. But by putting the best type of security you have to see if all your devices can connect to wifi.
The path: Advanced tab-> wireless-> wireless settings, you put WPA2-PSK and AES-> save. Same for the 5GHZ band, click 5GHZ at the top right ...

I did not quite understand the rest of your message.
With the ac2600 router you can put the extender that you have chosen for the ax1800 router.Note the ac2600 router is not ONMESH compatible unlike the ax1800.

The ax1800 router is wifi6 if you change your internet subscription for a speed of 1000Mbps you could reach them with wifi6 with wifi6 compatible devices.

Okay so if i dont plan to buy an extender, should i stick with the ac2600 router? Or return it and buy the ax1800 router? Again i havent opened the box yet.

We got one device that is wifi 6 at the moment. Someone mentioned dont bother with wifi 6 but someone else said wifi 6 routers are faster. But are wifi 6 faster than a ac router if your device isn't wifi 6?

For some reason i feel like the
ac2600 router probably has better range?

Since ac2600 users claim that it's suitable for large house. Give it a try, return it if does not suite you.

Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 only matters if you have a fast Internet service.

When I only had 200 Mbps internet I had a Wi-Fi 5 router because that was what made sense. Both my laptop and Samsung S21 phone only got about 180 Mbps. A Wi-Fi 6 router would not have helped make the devices faster.

When I upgraded to 1200 Mbps internet I received a Wi-Fi 6 router. My laptop with 802.11ac got 300-400 Mbps. My Samsung S21 phone with 802.11ax got 500-700 Mbps.

Since you have a range problem you should concentrate on getting a strong Wi-Fi signal to your devices. That is more important than whether your router is Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6.
