Windows 10 Update Bricks my Internet

Currently on: Windows 10 Build: 1803 I tried to update to (20h2 build) probably now 3 times, after hours of trying everything I could find I always went back and reverted to my 1803 version where my internet works perfectly right away.

After an update my internet completely bricks down, also for some magical reason, my Avast completely dissapears from my system like it never existed.

I am connected on cable (I am on desktop), right after new update my network says there is no Connection, it won't even show my connection to router, troubleshooting only shows that I dont have valid IP adress assigned. I tried everything I could find on internet regarding CMD commands, flushing DNS, checking all kinds of options and they they are correcly on.

My Device Manager shows on Network Adapters same thing, I tried to update it manually and even different versions to see if there is any change.

Nothing, I am really clueless at this point, I would appreciate any help or suggestion, until then I think I will be just stuck clicking every day "delay by 1 hour" for an update, I am doing this for months now...

    Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi, life doesn't have to be like that. I'll deal first with ways you can take control of Windows Update- even with Home, which is what I assume you have so you can continue to use you PC in peace. (More controls with Pro).

    a. Pausing updates:
Pause Updates or Resume Updates for Windows Update in Windows 10

    b. Blocking Windows Update
For years there have been various free ways to do this.
Using CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update
Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10

Tools like Sledgehammer and others you can find can also do this.

Kindly supply make and model of your PC, approx age, download page for drivers, and a screenshot of your partitions on all disks using a 3rd party partition manager.

After an update my internet completely bricks
    Unclear.

    Do you mean:
    a. after a driver update
    b. after any Windows Update of any kind
    c. after successfully upgrading to 20H2?
    d. something else.

In particular do you mean a feature update (upgrade) to 20H2 succeeds- but then your internet doesn't work?

Note that after a feature update, you get a whole new set of drivers. You may then have an updated driver which doesn't work with your PC and you might need to use an OLDER driver. (Just a guess).

Whilst Avast has never caused me a problem when upgrading (this directly from 1903 to 20H2) you should consider, given what you say, uninstalling Avast before upgrading.

    I agree with dalchina.

A useful precaution when preparing for a Version update is to backup your drivers.

If your Avast includes a firewall then perhaps your internet problem is that, with Avast inhibited by the update, Avast is still in control but is not able to authorise your network traffic. Just something to consider [I am not an Avast user].

Avast is a pest and often break the internet on removel you have to goto their site and get their removel tool. Did you try setting a fixed ip when updated there may just be issues with dhcp.

The thing to do is remove avast full see if the internet then work then do the update your version is so way out of date and a security risk
