New laptop higher ping than old one, drivers from manufacturer are exe

I just got a new Asus vivobook laptop Windows 10, shockingly the ping is far worse than my old laptop. Pinging google.com gives 100+ ms while my old one, as it has for YEARS returns 10-11ms. This is the same network at the same time.

In device manager, the realtek 8822ce wireless lan 802.11ac pci-e nic driver was last updated on 13/08/2020.

    On the manufacturer website here:
    TM420UA - Support

it has a networking driver that seems newer. But its an exe file not inf. If I run it, it just makes a DRIVERS folder in C drive and puts files in there. But I cant select it in driver update, theres no inf file in it.

Yes I tried with its default DNS and google DNS that the old one uses.

At this point its hard to believe something this bad can be caused by any windows setting, maybe I should make a bootable ubuntu usb to test that but thats a pain for me.

Also the laptop is from Amazon US sold on amazon.com.au, thought this could be problem but havent heard this being an issue, its 802.11ac same in australia.

    I have no clue, then.

I get a ping on the order of 100ms from Danbury, CT, USA to Buenos AIres, Argentina. Sydney is 240+ ms.

I'll try the ubuntu boot sometime, also support ticket Asus, and ask other people that bought the laptop (it was a deal) if they have the same problem.

    What files are in it?

My OEM driver files are also .exe files. When I run them, they create a folder just like your but then they continue and run the files that have put there so completing the driver installation is, for me, a one one-action job.

Your driver download page has a Chat link. You could ask them what is supposed to happen.

Alright so turns out since I didnt have show file extensions on, there is actually a .inf file in there. And a .txt file with instructions. So I installed it, but I think I already had the newest one, bizarrely the realtek driver they give didnt install, but the intel one did. Even though the wifi adapter in this machine says realtek and is meant to be realtek.

It didnt fix the latency at all, so now I will contact asus technical support. I just bought it and its under warrenty so we'll see.

I still have the feeling that you're somehow pinging an address on a different continent.

If you have another device that gives you the proper ping time, you might try using the same IP address in the Ping command on the new laptop.

Would make sense could be, but I also ran test from this:
    Ping test - www.meter.net

And says its hitting Sydney server and the result is terrible still.

I personally use 1.1.1.1 [Cloudflare], and 8.8.8.8 [Google], as my primary and secondary DNS addresses, It does help with access here to the forums as We and many other companies and content providers use both Cloudflare and Google Services.

It may not solve your current issues as they seem to be driver related from your explanation, [ keep checking the driver supplier for a working update], but it should provide the best available from what you have available

Out of interest I tried a Ping to Sidney AU and got between 199ms & 272ms depending on the address used

    Edit

I did notice that the original Realtek drivers for their wireless devices are considerably older than the ASUS ones - Back to 2017

    RTL8821CE Software - REALTEK

It's quite common for a system manufacturer to "modify" the original code for their own purposes you could try the original wireless driver, but of course be sure you have a viable backup of the current working system
