Wdtv Live no longer seeing Network shares

I used to be able to play my videos through network shares with my WDTV Live HD Media player. I installed Plex media server on the computer that contains my media . With that installed I seem to have lost my network shares function with WDTV Live. However I can play the files on WDTV Live via the DLNA function enabled within Plex media server.

I am trying to get my network shares function back again but I dont know how. I have enabled Smb1 in all windows 10 computers but that does not help . Windows shares does work because I can see and play the files from other computers on the local network. Its just that the WDTV Live device cannot see the Windows shares. All computers list the WDTV Live as media player. BTW all Sharing options are properly configured . Any ideas? Tks

    Sportflyer,

Mine is working fine with the recent update to 21H1, but it has certainly given issues like the one you're facing in the past (many times). I know you said sharing is configured, presumably Password Protected Sharing is turned off, and media streaming turned on.

I did all that in your link. However my Windows is Windows 10 Pro 1809. I need to update to new version as its end of life. Maybe thats the problem. Will see what happens after update.

Updated to 20H2 . Made sure shared folder have proper permissions etc . But still no network shares ,Tried 2 different WDTV Live units both behave the same. Nothing happens when clicking on windows shares. I am now wondering whether the router or Plex server is contributing to the problem. I did upgrade to Asus 86U router from Linksys E4200. I never had network shares problem with the Linksys Router. I also added Plex server recently.

Need some guidance. I manage to get the WDTV Live to turn on Network Shares. I had to insert a USB stick in the Asus Router, turn on the DLNA server function then make the router as master browser. I then tried to log in with my credentials to the computer that contains the media but could not connect . Any idea why? Tks

I finally fixed my problem. I had to go to advance sharing media streaming options and then make sure that wdtv Live is allowed for all networks not just the local network . Seems to work. On reflection , I think all my grief with accessing network shares from WDTV Live was because I changed my router from Linksys to Asus !

Glad you got it fixed. WDTVs are old now, and give unexpected problems as other things update. I still use mine (3 of them) when I want subtitles or play certain files that my Samsung TV won't play.

I am happy I fixed it but now encounter a new problem . My browsers stopped working properly. Chrome can launch and get to web pages . I can even run speed tests etc. However when I go the Amazon webpage, and I search for something , it hangs up . Nothing progresses. It hangs up waiting for Amazon response. I stopped and exited Chrome but after that it even won't launch. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome but still same problem. This problem is also with MS Edge browser so I think there must be something to do with network or Router . Fortunately I don't search for items on this computer which is almost exclusively used for media storage. Any ideas?

Sorry, nothing to add (I have my own issues with Win 10 Plex/Kodi "server" and android but that's a whole other headache) but I am indeed impressed that you are still using a WDTV Live. I sincerely hope you get it sorted out and give the old girl new life.

BTW do you know where I can download wdlxXtv live firmware? The wdlxtv forums are locked so I can't download anything.

The most recent WDTV Live Gen 3 firmware can be found at WD TV Live Streaming Media Player (Gen 3) halfway down the page
