    Intermittent Slow Wifi


    Hi All,

    On one of my machines, wifi is intermittent. It ocassionaly works well, but mostly is painfull slow, or cannot connect at all. The problem started a couple of weeks ago, before that it was fine.

    Speed test over ethernet: ping 8ms, download 36Mbp upload 9Mbps
    Speed test over wifi: ping 13ms, download 0.1Mbp upload 0Mbps sometimes just get test error

    I've tried to troubleshoot with no success:
    -Checked various network settings
    -Check wifi adaptor drivers. Remove & reinstall
    -Forget network settings & start from sratch
    -Checked wifi chip is not turning off due to power options
    -Checked TCP/IP settings (IPv4 & IPv6 both set to obtain ip address automatically)
    -Netsh winsock reset
    -Netsh int ip reset
    -Flushed DNS cache
    -Changed to open DNS
    -Probably a few things else I tried which i've forgotten!

    Running Win 10 2004 build 19041.928

    The only information we have on your computer spec is
    Computer Type: Laptop
    System Manufacturer/Model Number: hp

    This is of course not a lot of help, there is no real additional info in your post, could you please tell us the make and full model of the wireless adapter in use and indeed on which computer and if the HP the full model of that

    You have to find out if slow speed caused by your wireless network card or internet service provider or faulty router, check to see if other devices connected to router having same problem.

    Your windows version is out of support upgrading to the latest may help. Go onto MS store and download a wifi anerlizer free look to se eif there are router on the same channel and high signal strength which is blocking your signal

    Thanks for the replies.

    Sorry, I've not updated the system specs in my profile since I have a couple of machines. This one is a HP Pavilion Notebook 15-p189na. Network adapter is Realtek RTL8723BE (driver version 2024.0.4.208).

    The slow speed is not the router. Other devices connect over wifi & are fast. It is just this machine which is slow & only when on wifi. On ethernet it is fine.

    Automatic updates are on, & that windows version is only a month old, but I will try a manual update & see if that helps.

    Ok, checked for updates & installed those.

    I'm reluctant to install S0H2 - usually prefer to wait a while before installing a Feature Update / large update etc.

    can you bring in another laptop to same location and apply same tests on both and see if you'd have same or different results ? sometimes interference from a neighboring router or radio controllers near by slow down wifi connections .

    Yes, my other laptop has no issues with wifi - same router, same location etc.

    What did the the scan of local routers show and what version of wirless is the laptop runnin ie 2g, 5g and what type is it ie b,g,n,ac?

    I have one Notebook with an 802.11ac Wireless adapter and connects to an 802.11n Router, sometimes gives problems such as disconnecting. Usually all I have to do is use the keyboard to turn the adapter Off then back On. It also has the Bluetooth Wireless so I lose that for a bit.

    As noted in one of the news postings here that Notebook is also giving the security warning about the Router being too old, guess I need to set up a new one.

    If you have it enabled - turn off bluetooth
    The Realtek chip provides not only the wifi, but also the NIC and the bluetooth
    RTL8723BE - REALTEK

    if you have bluetooth turned on - although not using it, the wifi will be slow

    Go device manager expand network adpaters
    right click on the realtek wireless
    click properties
    click advanced
    please tell me if you have bluetooth on the list and antennae diversity
