    How to share folder to specific user on specific PC on the network


    Hello,

    I have 3 PCs running Windows 10 (Home) and one of them is sharing a folder to the others.
    I shared the folder using Right click on the folder > Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Share this folder > Permissions > Everyone > Change (Or Full Access, depends what I need).

    On each of the other PCs I am using net use to mount this folder as a network drive.

    But I don't have a place where I can choose specific PC on the network and a specific user to allow. When I try to add a specific PC from the network using the "Add" (In the Share Permission window) - I don't see any other PC name that are on my local network under "Locations" - so how can I set a specific PC and a specific user from that PC?

    Unless your PC is on a network with a Domain server and is a member of that Domain then you can't. Obviously with 3 PCs all running Home that's not the case.

    You can only set share permissions for users or groups that exist on the PC doing the sharing. If you want to restrict access to just the one user on another PC, then you need to create a local account for them on the PC doing the sharing. It doesn't have to be the same name as they sign in on their PC, it just has to be an account that only that other user knows the name and password for.

    Then set permission so that only this local user account has access. The user on the other PC can provide this name/password credentials when connecting, no one else can connect unless they have been told the name/password.
