Sharing Problem: Desktop sees Laptop, but Laptop does not see Desktop

I have desktop and laptop on same workgroup and same router.
Desktop is ethernet cable attached, laptop via wifi.
Both systems are at the same level of Windows 10 Pro X64 - 20H2 19042
Shares were created via "Give Access" in file explorer.
The desktop sees the laptop and its shares. The laptop sees itself.
All other settings are as per the book and are the same on both sides.
    ????

    PS
Tried with different Windows account on laptop. Made no difference.

Hi, I have the same problem- after upgrading to 20H2 on 1 laptop from 1903, the 20H2 laptop 'sees' the 1903 laptop (icon only) but cannot now access anything on it (green progress bar). Have checked everything as regards networking as per the tutorial. I'm not minded to devote more effort to it at present..!

Both mine use the same MS live id login.

So, if you don't mind, I'll see what others may suggest.

Check whether or not the Desktop see itself & its own shared folders in File explorer, Network.
    - If not then there was a problem setting up the shared folders so check [for each shared folder] Properties, Sharing tab, Advanced sharing - Share this folder & Permissions, Everyone

Seems that the old methods no longer work.
One has to use the "Add a Network Location" function to get to shared content on the other machine(s).
In addition to grant access to a shared disc requires using the Security Tab in Properties.

Great insight- Having added my 1903 PC as a Network Location on my 20H2 PC, I can now 'see' it again.

    - by that do you mean anything more than was previously necessary?

First time I can see anything on PC-SPECIAL (1903) from this 20H2 PC after upgrading from 1903.

    Thanks!

If my memory serves me correctly, I think it was always necessary to use the Security Tab for shared discs.

Thank you for the rep update.
