How do I see and use a networked item>

I have purchased an adaptor that is reported to use WiFi to do things like transfer items (MIDI Files) between an instrument and my computer. I have successfully installed the adaptor onto my router but it doesn't show on Network in Windows File Explorer. I'll admit to not being very proficient with networking so maybe there's something simple that I'm missing.

Documentation for the adaptor covers only installation onto LAN, which I've done. I'm thinking that if I can "see" the adaptor on my computer maybe I can click on it to see and copy data.

    See attached image.

What kind of connector does this adaptor have? Are you sure you're supposed to plug it into the router?

The screenshot is almost too small to read, but it's not plugged into the router. It''s from the Yamaha corporation, is connected to the router by 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and has been assigned an IP address of 192.168.1.33

@lbeck, please give us the model name of the adapter so we can look up its manual.

    Thanks for the response.

It has a USB connector that plugs into an electric piano (Yamaha Clavinova). There is a light on the adaptor that flashes to show that it is working.

I used the WPS button on the adaptor and the router to have the router recognize the adaptor - which it does as shown on the connected devices GUI of the router.

The adaptor is a Yamaha UD-WL01.

    Thank you.

It appears this adapter is intended for use with apps on an Apple iOS device, not a PC.

UD-WL01 offers new ways to enjoy your musical instrument using iOS Applications and web services.

UD-WL01 is a USB wireless LAN adaptor that allows you connect your musical instrument to an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad and enjoy a range of Yamaha iOS Applications and other web services(*).

Apparently apps are available for Android devices too, ie: almost any smart phone.

    Bree,
Insightful research and instruction, as usual. I had no trouble misunderstanding lbeck's "I have successfully installed the adaptor onto my router" as meaning "I have connected it to my router." Careless reading on my part.

Thanks so much for your expert insight. Unfortunately, I continue to be unable to access the adaptor on my any of my devices even though I have followed the instructions and the hardware appears to be working. Already mentioned that I'm not proficient with network issues, and the instructions that you have cited seem to be straightforward:

1:Insert UD-WL01 into USB TO DEVICE jack of your instrument.
2:Press and hold the WPS button on UD-WL01 for 3 seconds.
3:Press the WPS button on your wireless router.

Having done that the UD-WL01 does indeed appear in the list of devices recognized by my router.

I do have an iPad, iPhone, Android tablet and Android smart phone. I can't find the UD-WL01 located on any of the devices - only on my wireless router as directed by the instructions that are clear but without detail. That's why I continue to assume that there's something that I'm missing but most network gurus may recognize. My "WiFi Network Name (SSID" IS shown on all my smart devices.

This may be an issue for IOS or Android gurus but when I see the terms "router" or "network" I think in terms of PCs.

Let's pause your work on this thread for a bit. I've made progress with help from an Android forum and now am able to connect the UD-WL01 (attached to my Yamaha CVP-701) to my Android tablet. I'll work on getting information transfer by seeing if I need additional software or something.

I also can see the UD-WL01 on my PC but I'm getting a message that I can't connect to the network specified (see image provided). I'll work through the tenforums tutorial here after I get communication UD-WL01 <-> Android tablet.

Thanks for your help so far. I'll be back after my problem is totally resolved.
