Setup of HP Officejet 9015e failing because HP Smart App does not open

    Hello,
    Running WIN 10 20H2 build 19042.906.

Trying to setup my 9015e on WIN 10. Connected via ethernet to modem/router (not using wireless). When getting HP Smart from the Windows Store, I hit my problem: HP Smart has installed from The Store, but will not open correctly. When I click Launch, it opens for about one second, then winks off the screen.

The error message is "Something Unexpected Happened" with the code: 0x800700B7.

I have gone through the HP support site, but every fix I find seems to return me to the HP Smart App to repair my problem; since HP Smart won't open, I seem to be stuck.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I suggest you uninstall HP Smart then just download & install your normal / "Full solution" driver & application package from HP.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Denis.
I had read that suggestion when I was reading around earlier. I went to the hp site, drivers & downloads, but could not specifically find this "full-solution" software (am I blind?). What I did find, when clicked to download, it linked me back to the HP Smart page. Possibly with the Smart App installed, it will automatically link you to it. I will go ahead, uninstall the Smart App and re-try something from the hp page. Will report back my results ASAP.

    OK -- I'm back.
Removed the Smart App via Settings.
Back on the hp site, downloads & drivers I found 4 things:
    1) Driver product Installation software. Looks like this installs the Smart App. No thanks.
    2) HP Universal Fax driver. Not planning on faxing much of anything, so I think not this.
    3) Firmware Update. Is this needed?
    4) HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software.

#4 looks like the best bet here on this page. Is this correct? Is this the Full solution software you mentioned?

I have 2 HP printers, LaserJet Pro MFP M148 and OfficeJet Pro 9015, see issues for Smart so have removed it from 4 Desktops and a few Notebooks. Most of my needs are satisfied by programs and for scanning I use Windows Fax and Scan if a program can't, only needs the HP drivers. Part of what Smart wants is to set up an account and I pass on that. On one Desktop Smart only went to a blank page.

    Joe,

I have a different type of HP printer but here's what mine shows and I think the huge size of the HP smart entry makes it too easy to miss the one that matters.

    Thanks for that, Berton.
One my follow-up questions (if I never get this App working) was:
Can I just print directly from my PC without using HP Smart?
Based on your comment, it looks like I can do that. Although my printer came with an offer of free 6 months supply of ink (not the Instant ink program which I don't care about), and it looks like you need Smart to get this (small matter).

    Thanks again, Denis.
Unfortunately, the full solution item you circled does not appear on my downloads page (and I couldn't find a search box to hunt for it). Not sure how to proceed.

And thanks for answering that other question about simply not using Smart.

    Joe,

I just had a look for myself
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers...model/37934143
and I think your software is under the subheading Software-utility [and is what you listed earlier as #4 so I should have just said Yes to that but had not checked at the time]
It's the same software for both x64 & x86, I just happened to screenshot the x86 page after having checked both.

So I think you should download & install that "HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only"
[The smaller 9.5MB version underneath it is bound to just be a caller that downloads the full one but that would deprive you of a copy of the full version to keep for future needs]

Excellent! That was the full software. All of that got set up, including getting some free ink. Had to sign up for Instant ink in order to get that, but I will kill that plan when my ink arrives.
The one downside was that after getting that setup, it kicked me back into the Store to install Smart. Now Smart won't even install! Doesn't matter though, I got what I needed.
Thank you very much! You made my day. (After 3 days of pulling my hair out, I guess I should've come here first. The HP "forums" are pretty useless.)
Also thanks to Berton for his contribution.
