    1Gbps router, 2.5Gbps switch, 2 PC's with 2.5Gbps - Will this work?

The router (ASUS RT-AC87U) connects from switch to internet 1Gbps. The switch will be a 2.5Gbps, and I have 2 PC's witch both has a Realtek 2.5 Gbps RJ45 connection.

As for now I don't have the switch, but I'm thinking of buying one to get a 2.5 connection between the 2 PC's. I know this will not change my inernet connection at all! This is only to get the higher speed between the PC's. But will I get this in the above setting? Or will everything train to slowest speed, 1Gbps?

Its would work but its a question if you can reach those speeds due to limits of cpu, memory etc.

Your windows is way out of date and out of support so its a risk and may not have latest drivers

Thank you for info. It is not an CPU nor RAM that is holding it back, so I will try and buy this switch.

No, my Windows is not "way out of date" it is 21H1, but as many others I can't install KB5000842. Read more here: KB5000842 Windows 10 Insider Beta 19043.906 21H1 and RP 19042.906 20H2

Yes, that will work just fine. I'm considering getting a 2.5Gbps switch as my wife and my computer are on the same desk and we both have 2.5Gbps cards and NVMe drives. So, might as well get a little more speed between us. However, the prices aren't exactly cheap...so not sure it's worth the extra money.
