difficulty printing to samsung scx-5935fn printer

hi all
my wife is opening a nonprofit and the prior building owners left their samsung printer scx-5935. The online manual is..interesting.
That being said I have tried two different set ups.

1. printer connected to desktop pc whose connection is wifi. This PC can print to the printer fine. However, sharing it does not seem to work and I ran into issues with logins that do not work etc. We can go that route if that better.

2. printer connected to the the nearby wifi extender. This is a linksys extender re 7000. Everything on the network can see the printer as a network device but nothing can print to it.

the pc is running windows 10 latest update (I can post the exact version number when at the office in the morning)

I can provide any other information desired of course. I will be back at the office in the AM
the desire is for anything on the network to print to the pc. since this PC does NOT have wifi and the office is NOT wired for ethernet, options are limited. If needed I can run ethernet but would like to avoid it.

More info needed:
1. What printer driver setup are you using on the PC which does print successfully to it? For example, did you use the OEM installer CD or download a driver or use the Samsung Easy Wireless Setup app? (More support information here.)
2. Do the PCs which can't access it as a shared printer have SMB1 disabled? (That model does not apparently support SMB2/3.) This would affect them passing data blocks to the PC (which would also need SMB1 enabled) which has the attached printer as a shared resource.
3. Does the present Wi-Fi extender include an ethernet port for a wired connection?
4. Do you have access to an Ethernet-Over-Power pair of Powerline adapters (for example) so the printer can become wired as an alternative to wireless?

What I know from home:
1. initially DL'd the driver from the samsung website. then I tried running the easy wireless setup but the UAC on the pc blocked it for some reason. I could not get around that block despite multiple attempts.

2.a
none of the pcs can print to it, but all of them can see it on the network. The current set up is the printer plugged into the ethernet port on the extender.
2b
IF the printer was plugged into the usb on the desktop pc as it was previously, none of the devices on the network could see the printer except for the desktop pc. Despite me turning off usernames and passwords in windows 10, when this was set up this way, trying to access the desktop via the network on another pc, would prompt a username and password, which was supposed to have been disabled. this is what prompted me to try using 2a set up above

I will have to look into smb1 - I can check when I am back at the office.

3. the wifi extender has an ethernet port that the printer is currently connected to. Printer has an IP address thru it and can be seen on the network by devices on it but none can print to it.

4. I likely have an old pair of these, yes. I can look for them. This is a great thought!

If you connect the printer via LAN to your router or a network switch connected to your router, then you just need the proper drivers and software installed on devices to see the printer. No need to share from Windows.

thank you, I figured the same.
is there a specific driver/software I need? or how do I go about doing it? When I try to install network printer thru the search it does not seem to find it. I can certainly look into this when back at the office, thank you.

Connecting the printer to the router (or a switch) using ethernet is by far the best idea. Just check on the printer's control panel that it's set to use DHCP rather than manually configured by the previous owners for a different network class. Basically, if the non-profit's PCs are using DHCP (the default) and so is the printer (the default) then it should be straightforward.

Even though HP took over the Samsung line, no firmware changes have been made to allow the printers to be found as generic PCL 5/6 printers. You still have to load up the drivers from hp .com. Each computer would then need that driver to find the IP set as Static on the printer. I keep my M2825DW set at 10.0.0.6 as Static on the printer. That way it never changes.

Normally this will find and install the specific drivers/software for the device, Windows 10 normally just looks at it blankly!
I have just fixed a recurring problem with randomly getting no printing!! so I've disabled WSD in the printer firmware, no more random disconnects.
WSD is a Windows 10 auto discovery for printing but has a habit of randomly deciding what your supposed to print to!
